India Ranks Lowest Amongst BRICs in Innovation

Just like these rankings the article also mentions that India is just second to China in innovation efficiency. There is nothing wrong with looking for something positive out of a report as well . There is a reason why they have mentioned it in the article as well. It is because it is important.

Like I said, having a good input to output ratio is not impressive at all, if the input (and therefore the output) is very low.

It's easy to grow from a small base. The real trick is how to maintain a high ratio as the input increases to a more substantial level.

It talks about efficiency in innovation with relation to input and output . Of course it can be seen in isolation .It is something India is relatively good at just behind China .

Of course the overall index is more important but efficiency is important as well :D

so excited over efficiency figures which are still second after china?

Actually our output is quite good, given how small our input is. Not to forget that India is n

Not by much.

That's why it's a good "ratio". But ratio doesn't mean anything if you're lagging behind overall.

Do you think the ratio will remain static when your input increases?

No look at the Ranking,

China input Ranking = 55
China output Ranking=19

India input Ranking= 96
India output Ranking=40

Difference in input ranking= 41, Difference in output ranking= 21. What does that tell you about our efficiency :azn:

Anyone can grab one small part of an Index to make themselves feel better, but what you don't seem to realize is that if you score highly on one sub-index and score low overall... then you score VERY low on the other sub-indexes.

Here are the actual rankings from the latest Global Innovation Index for the BRIC countries:

China - 34
Russia - 51
Brazil - 58
India - 64

And it's interesting to note that India is actually falling downwards in the index.

Hey, isn't Chinese copying lots of Russian technology and Chinese are still light years behind Russians. Russia deserves top rank.

Not to forget that India is ranked number 1 in the lower middle income group. Its all about money, as India gets "richer" our ranking will improve.

Wow, not content with trying to make themselves feel better with the "innovation efficiency" sub-index, they have found yet another sub-index within a sub-index.

Trying that hard to find a good side to the fact that India has the lowest innovation ranking in the BRICs, is not "looking at the bright side" but simply delusion.

Not by much.
But, the question is that how do you get richer? Many times, you indian don't finish the first problem, but put your hand on the next, Just like LCA, even LCA 1 is not finished, you officials and normals have talked about LCA 3, it is ridiculous!!

Its not "trying that hard", there is reason why such classification is mentioned in the report right? Its not like I made that table. Besides I misread the table, I thought it was Innovation Index Ranking.

In Innovation Index ranking, China is ranked 3rd in the Upper Middle income group, and India is ranked 3rd in lower in the Lower Middle Income group. So as I said, as the input increases (when more money is available) our ranking will improve.

Its also important to note that India is poorest out of all the BRICS country.

UH what? What has the LCA got to do with anything. The fund going into LCA project is a minuscule fraction of our GDP. As long as our economy keeps growing, the funding will increase too.

These results are not only a wake-up call for the "India Shining" brigade, but also raise serious questions about the credibility of India's western cheerleaders like Indian-American journalist Fareed Zakaria and New York Times' columnist Tom Friedman.

Haq's Musings: PISA & TIMSS Confirm Low Quality of Indian Education

Why is this not a wake up call for you lots?

If India which fared so badly in PISA test is ranked 64 in Innovation Index, how do you think Pakistan will fare in PISA with an innovation ranking of 133( 8th from the last)

Let me try and help you understand that India ranked BOTTOM...it's hard for any one to do worse.

You are relating PISA test score to Innovation Index yeah?

India second last in PISA= 64 in Innovation Index

Pakistan if it ever took PISA(imagine the ranking)= 133rd in Innovation Index( 8th from the very bottom).

Makes sense:lol:
