India ranks 35th among 'flawed democracies'

Just because some Indians responded to the original article doesn't mean it boomeranged on me. The latest article just shut them up again.

tsk...tsk you had to post article from Indian to claim the same ?

What about democracy in your own country ?

Indians will vote but will they really have democracy?

The queues at polling stations next week will be real enough. But the prospects of voters' lives improving are an illusion

Couple of comments from the original site :
The UK took 4 centuries after the 'Magna Carta' to become a great power and another century and a half before wealth began to 'trickle down'. The US took more than a century and a half from Independence to become a prosperous, fully democratic country. India has been independent for all of 61 years
"Just as India has taken cricket and changed it for ever, it has adopted “democracy” and transformed it into its own unique political game." Sarmila is right, almost. The western standards of democracy can hardly be applied here. Does that make India undemocratic? Not really!
Exactly my thoughts.

As per the report i feel India's 35th rank is good. If you go through the report then you will realize that Indian Democracy is doing better in 3 criteria among the 5 if we compare it to UK and USA democracies..

1) Electoral process and pluralism :- India has 9.58 which is equal to UK and better than US 8.75.

2) Functioning of government:- India has 8.21 which is bit less than UK 8.57 and better than US 7.86

3) Civil liberties:- India has 9.41 which is better than UK 8.82 and US 8.53

Great Going India.:victory:

By the way Munshiji take some interest in your own democracy as well. Care about your own country as well.:lol::enjoy:

I always love to read when your write something like this in frustration.

There are many positives for Indian Democracy in this article published by the poster by mistake :)

But we have a long way to go and we should only take it as encouragement and not be complacent.

Equal rights for all, justice for all, freedom for all. our goal is tougher and higher, lets stick to it and not look for shortcuts.

There is a thread started recently on the dwindling quality of posts.

This thread adds to that list. I cannot fathom the motive for starting such threads by members ( Ind - Pak -BD et all). Is it to show down another ? If so to what avail ?

We all live in glass houses.

If India is 35th so what ? Indians are happy with the way they . Why should any one get tickled about it ?

The BSF does not mutiny, the Army does not stage coups, the Constitution remains in force since 1950, we are not good, we not be the best but we muddle along and have remained intact for over 60 yrs.

Mr. Munshi would you care to explain why you named the thread India ranks 35 and not BD ranks 91 or Pakistan ranks 108?

What were you trying to achieve, show how bad India is? I'm sure you didn't take the effort to find out where your own country stands.

People who try to bring down others instead of improving themselves are the lowlife. See I like bangladesh, we learn from it: like the grameen bank and micro-credit is now being implemented in India. We need BD to bring peace to the North-east of India.

I'm sure BD needs India in some ways. Think Win-Win:cheers:

I think these posts critical of Indian achievements will bring chauvinists down to earth. Bangladesh and Pakistan are well aware of their deficiencies but Indians have this complex that they are somehow better. Scratch a little deeper and you will still find a dirt poor, often ignorant and largely communal India with a thin coating of democracy on top.

we read all your rubbish, now why dont you read the true position of india as a democracy from the posts of some of my fellow countrymen and see how you doctored it..........it is your walled mindset that unables you to see the democratic face of india and lets you live in a phase of denial........your anti-india propagonda is of no value to us but certainly keeps you in fools paradise.......nijer chorkay tel din,bangladesh-e democratic govt houa sotteo ato kharap obostha keno seta dekhun.......amader ninde kore bangladesher kono unnoti hobe na........got that mr munshi??

As long as Indians are happy with 35th rank or whatever, thats what matters. Chinese are happy with their own way of democracy or autocracy. BD is happy with Famillycracy and stuck with Two Lady devil, still people are happy. Thats what matters, whether I like it or not...

So what if Indians are Chauvinist, What do you care? Are you Indian by heart, to teach Indians how they should behave? In last 10 years, India is going thru drastic changes for the betterment, and showing greater sign for brighter future, Indians have every right to feel proud for themselves. And really that is what is eraking you, doesn't it? Since we definitetly do not see the same results from the neighbors.

but this thread is to judge how a nation stands acts as a democracy, and none can disagree with the fact that india left behind some 1st world and well known democracies of the world in some important fields.........you cannot take away the credit from india by only highlighting the negative points.......and presenting it to show india down.........you do not have the right to do so,while your country is one of the worst farers(sorry to say this, but i was forced to).......regards

Well, its not a complex Munshi. India is indeed better in these terms than either BD or Pakistan, and by a big margin.

As mentioned above, BSF doesnt revolt, the Military doesnt take over the country whenever it feels like it, the Constitution does not change to suit every new ruler.

And guess what?-Political Parties do lose elections and they transfer power-peacefully.
India has progressed in almost every field consistently.

All in all, I think its an example you should try and emulate in your country. And sad as you may be-the way things are turning out in BD, they are indeed emulating India. Extremist parties have been voted out, trials for war criminals is on the anvil, elections have been successfully completed. So Bangladesh is surely progressing towards a better future.

Who takes away what???? Just check your back pocket, it is still there... :enjoy:

Hail India, Hail democracy.... Happy now.... ?

Regarding Bangladesh... I dont want democracy in Bangladesh as long as we have significant number of people illeterate.
