India puts civil aircraft plan back on runway

Easier said than done. Neither Tata nor Mahindra has the skill-set or infrastructure necessary to design and develop large civilian aircraft. All they have are relevant experience in design and development of land vehicles(which is a totally different ball-game).

Aircraft design and construction is a highly specialized field, and were it any easy, we'd have already seen many Indian private players in it already.

Private entities flourish by merger and acquisition. If they have a substantial market in the aviation industry, some western acquisitions are definitely in the cards. We can get both necessary knowledge base and required infrastructures.

Not in the mid level aviation sector and beyond. There are only a handful of Corporates and Government entities worldwide who specialize in medium and large airplane design and construction, and none are on sale, AFAIK. And their market capitalization far exceeds what is within the grasp of Companies like Tata and Mahindra.

Mahindra had bought Gippsland Aeronautics, a struggling Australian firm that specializes in 8-14 seater civilian aircraft at around 37.5 million dollars in 2010, and have recently set up a fabrication facility near Bangalore. That's about as far as they can go in the civilian aircraft segment for the next decade or so.

The title of the word is "civilian aircraft" but the article also uses the word "Transport"??

As if all airliner developers in the world have indigenous engines,
As if making airliners is the national aim of all the other country.

And you are comparing companies to India, lol, any company can order any part for its product but when you as a nation try to put the tax payers money to develop something for the "national pride" you better aim to make the main parts yourself.

If you cant develop a turboprop then what do you wanna prove by developing a fuselage, landing gear and putting some avionics??

Besides, when you have fcked up laws for airlines whats this plane for anyways?

Sry but I wont fly in it. They want to create civilian planes but forget another important parameter: THE EXPERIENCE. If India cannot take steps to correct Air India, then I and others won't give it a chance.
