India prepares Israeli SPYDER air defence missile system for Pakistan border

So there is a real threat from PAF.

Akash has a longer range than spider but will be deployed alongside spider. Something tells me akash doesn't work
Epic Fail.
India operates Spyder-MR with a max range of 35 km.

SPYDER is an LLQRM
Also articles got confused between SPYDER SR & MR, India operates MR variant with 35 km range.

Anyways we do not have to explain anything to a country which cannot build a 10 km range SAM.
Talk from country whose most defence projects are failing

We have the JF-17 best aircraft in the world
It's good Air Craft but not best not even close

Do you have any defense project?I doubt if you even make a low range rocket..
You buy like in supermarket..
Our air defense projects are pretty much successful..

The Army and the IAF have placed orders for the production of Akash systems, totally valued at Rs. 23,000 crore.

A flight-trial by the Army of the surface-to-air missile Akash failed to hit the target after it was launched from the Integrated Test Range at Balasore in Orissa on Saturday. The target was a pilotless aircraft, Lakshya. It was a post-induction trial by the Army. The medium range Akash has already been inducted into the Army and the Indian Air Force. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) had developed the missile.

Media frenzy about Indian Army dumping Indigenously developed medium range supersonic Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) ‘Akash’ for Israel developed SPYDER (Surface-to-air Python and DERby) short and medium range mobile air defence system created confusion regarding status quo of Akash SAM System which only aggregated with no official response coming from Indian Army.

Defence minister Manohar Parrikar recently rubbished media reports and confirmed that Indian Army which has recently Inducted Army variant of Akash System recently will further follow up with more orders and will induct all Akash Systems for which it has placed orders .
According to reliable sources close to idrw.org , Indian Army will purchase Spyder QR-SAMs from Israeli Rafael Advanced Defense Systems to be used as Tactical Battlefield Air Defence Systems which will be highly mobile and can move along with Strike corps into an enemy territory and provide protection to its troops and its Armoured Corps against Attack Choppers ,Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs) or Fighter jets operated by Enemy .
Demand for QR-SAM by Indian Army is not new it has been there for last 3 decade, under India’s Integrated Guided Missile Development Program, DRDO was tasked to develop Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile Trishul missile project, but after repeated failures Program was officially closed down in 2008 .
Akash medium range supersonic Surface-to-Air Missile which can reach hit targets up to 30 km away and carried a warhead of 50 kg and is crucial to India’s air defence programme but it is more of Static Air Defence system which can be used to protect vital installations and provide wide coverage in Securing vital airspace against cruise missiles and enemy aircraft

Enough of Akash, says Army as it opts for Israeli missiles

NEW DELHI: The Army is likely to go for Israeli quick-reaction surface-to-air missiles (QR-SAMs) to take on enemy fighters, helicopters and drones after firmly rejecting any further induction of the much-touted indigenous Akash missiles.

Defence ministry sources said the Army has made it clear that it does not want any more Akash regiments after it gets the first two ordered earlier for Rs 14,180 crore, with six firing batteries and hundreds of missiles each.

This marks a major blow to the 'Make in India' policy, especially since the Navy is turning to France for similar requirements after dumping the Akash missiles for its warships due to "stabilisation problems".

"The Army holds Akash area defence missile systems do not meet its operational requirements for defending its strike corps against enemy air attacks in forward areas. Instead, it wants the global route for procurement of four QR-SAM regiments," said a source.

While missile systems from Israel, Russia and Sweden have undergone extensive field trials conducted by the Army, sources said the Israeli Spyder QR-SAMs has virtually emerged the winner in the race.

IAF, incidentally, is already on course to induct four Spyder units from February 2017 onwards. But the force is also progressively inducting 15 Akash missile squadrons, worth around Rs 10,900 crore, six of which are meant for the northeast to counter China's build-up of military infrastructure across the Line of Actual Control, as earlier reported by TOI.

What is the point of this obsession? Those are year old news..
Also failure can be expected during trial it's normal..Nowhere in the world there is 100% successibility(Pakistan exception)..

This news is from today
Homegrown supersonic interceptor missile test-fired
Balasore (Odisha), Mar 1 India today successfully test-fired its indigenously developed supersonic interceptor missile capable of destroying any incoming enemy ballistic missile at low altitude.

Money talks.joint ventures as usual or buy it.nothing new from the Indian side.

Really...then you cry in every thread about PN being outmatched by IN

btw @Zarvan any aesa radar or air defence from your country
we don't have coastal boundaries every where like india and no navy can do blockade of Pakistan as we are connected to china, middle east, central asia via land.

The report is misleading.

Currently BEL,BDL,OFB is jointly producing around 50 - 60 units of AKASH every month. This will be increased to 100 missiles every month to meet the current demand.

However Akash was never meant to be a Quick Reaction (QR) missile.

The army wants a QR SAM that provides a 360 degree coverage so that a smaller number of missiles can be deployed in the field.

Akash is mounted on a platform that can rotate 360 degrees but during deployment, the radar will only scan 90 degrees so the IA will required 4 Akash missile mounted vehicle for a 360 degree coverage.

A single truck mounted Spyder OTOH provides 360 coverage along with its EL/M-2084 MMR radar (in rotation mode).

AKASH actually has a much higher flight ceiling of 60,000 feet as compared to 30,000 feet of Spyder, also Akash has twice the range. Akash also has multiple guidance channels which is far more difficult to jam,

Spyder has a 11kg explosive warhead , Akash has a 60 kg explosive warhead that will destroy aircraft.

So both the missile system will complement each other to provide a 2 tier Ariel defense system.

Interestingly both Akash and Spyder can intercept Cruise missiles, making the pakistani inventory defunct.

Also the AKASH-Mk2 will have a 40KM intercept range and is already being tested.

Pakistan does have Air defence Systems which are even better than what India has currently.
The only superior system would S-400 from Russia, that could be matter of concerned for Pakistan.

We need something equivalent to that system.

Nope SPYDER is far superior to your SPADA-2000.
