India plans big naval exercise in Arabian Sea, Pakistan’s only sea trade route

@Soumitra Did they read your mind? :P

NEW DELHI: As part of its post-Uri show of strength, India will hold a major naval exercise in the Arabian Sea in the coming weeks. The naval show, called the Defence of Gujarat Exercise (DGX), will take place near Pakistan’s coast line.

Three dozen warships and submarines as well as Indian Air Force aircraft are likely to take part. The Arabian Sea is Pakistan’s main sea trading route. Intelligence and defence officials said a show of naval strength in this area can be a crucial part of India’s message to Pakistan.

Naval exercises practice manoeuvres to defend a maritime assault on Indian mainland and assume a number of hostile contingencies. Defence of Indian assets such as oil rigs as well as coastal security will be part of the manoeuvres.

Fighter, reconnaissance and patrol aircraft are part of such exercises. Indian Air Force’s maritime role Jaguars and Su-30 MKIs, and navy’s reconnaissance and patrol aircraft, plus unmanned aerial vehicles, will be deployed.

Pakistan Army on High Alert
India is reviewing intelligence reports that Pakistan has put three of its army corps along the Indian border on alert, and is deploying reconnaissance patrols and early warning elements.

Pakistan has to deploy a bulk of its forces on its western border with Afghanistan where it is fighting extremists of various shades, some of whom were previously backed by Pakistan’s security establishment.

But despite this, given India’s post-Uri stance, Pakistan’s 31Corps and 30 Corps are on high alert. “They (Pakistan) fear a surprise,” a senior member of India’s intelligence community said.

Wow seriously didnt know that. I am clairvoyant. Can we get the thread reopened @waz, @Oscar?

@Areesh yesterday's lame and pathetic thread is about to become a reality

Was expected. Nothing new. Calibrated and graded cost escalation is the key. You have to look at the spending capacity of either nations. In Parakaram, we mobilised the whole army, air force and quite a lot of naval assets, now, we have only repositioned some troops in J&K, started a major air exercise in west, and now will start a naval exercise. In short, longer period of time for troops to be on constant deployment and greater the costs (financial) on the economy.

Has happened earlier also.

I feel protection of Maritime assets should be now given to Navy. Air Force should be strictly within the country to concentrate on other areas. Navy should have atleast 10 squadrons of shore based fighters for the protection of its bases and oil rigs and coastal industrial platforms.

Where is the budgetary support for that?

I was expecting it... infact i wrote last week... soon most of the front line ships from eastern command will move to Arabian sea.... its on....

FYI... wait for another nuclear threat from pk once the exercise starts

We do not need to block your sea .....just manipulate the river water according to season it will do more harm

Seriously speaking you can't do that either. Go learn more about your projects on those rivers.

Wake us up when you block our seas. And I hope this time it won't be a drama like surgical strikes. :)

Pakistan army said the same thing, drama.

This means they are feeling the heat, SAARC cancellation, snubbing by handlers in US and China, IWT review and even economic sanctions, so they want to normalise the situation.
