The Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysore has been identified to create the content for the portal as a part of Prime Minister's Digital India initiative. It has been said that the textbooks, dictionaries, grammar books in 22 languages will be digitized and made available on the portal.
Furthermore, in the first phase of the Bhatavani project, digitized content will be made available in 22 scheduled languages which will be extended to other of the recognized 234 mother languages of the country. Also, people of Bangladesh and India will jointly celebrate IMLD on Bangladesh-India no man's land at Benapole check post in Jessore.
There is a need for early school education in mother tongue, since the research findings consistently show that learners cognitively benefit significantly from it. It has been found that with the use of home language schools tremendously help children to integrate well in the school environment.
Also, the research studies in early grade reading have shown that pupils who develop reading skills through mother tongue with specially developed for it have a head-start in education. However, a sensitive transition to school language also needs to be taken up the schools.
