Canadian High Commission terms BSF as 'notoriously violent'
ET Bureau May 22, 2010, 03.30am IST

NEW DELHI: In a development that could trigger a diplomatic row between India and Canada, the Canadian high commission in New Delhi termed the Border Security Force as a "notoriously violent paramilitary unit engaged in systematic attacks on civilians and responsible for torturing suspected criminals." The external affairs ministry has taken up the matter with Canadian authorities.

The outrageous Canadian stand came to light after a retired BSF jawan's immigration to Canada was rejected by its high commission in New Delhi on the grounds that he once worked for BSF.

Describing the retired BSF security head constable as a member of a "persecuting group", the Canadian high commission claimed that the BSF was responsible for committing crime against humanity.

BSF brutally assaults and injures six innocent farmers in West Bengal

CASE NARRATIVE:

The victims in this case are: (1) Mr Abdur Rahman, son of Mr Ramjan Ali Sardar, aged about 27 years; (2) Mr Ramjan Sardar, son of Mr Ismail Sardar, aged about 62 years; (3) Mr Baburali Mondal, son of Mr Bahar Ali Mondal, aged about 48 years; (4) Mr Rasul Sardar, son of Mr Ramjan Sardar, aged about 36 years; (5) Mr Mahiuddin Gain, son of Mr Achmat Gain, aged about 52 years; (6) Mr Motiar Gain, son of late Mr Asmat Gain, aged about 53 years; all by occupation day-labourers and residing at Gobra village, under the jurisdiction of Swarupnagar Police Station, North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal.

The incident happened on 22 August 2011 at about 6am. At the time, the victims were moving towards their farmland carrying a bag of paddy on their head. When they reached a road crossing named "Tin Rasta More" near Gobindapur BSF Border Outpost (BOP), Gate number 18, two BSF officers in uniform from Gobindapur BOP stopped the farmers. The officers asked the victims as to what they were carrying on their head in the bag. They replied that they were carrying paddy for planting. Then the officers asked the victims to produce their identity card issued by the Election Commission of India. The victims showed their identity cards. Then the officers accused the victims of smuggling cattle on the previous night. The victims denied the allegations and they protested against the false allegation. This apparently provoked the officers and they started assaulting the victims. The officers assaulted the victims with wooden sticks and kicked and punched them. The officers also assaulted the victims with rifle ***** on their head, shoulders and on their spine. The victims pleaded that they are on fast for the Muslim festival, but the officers did not pay any heed and abused the victims using ****** language even in the name of their religion. The victims soon fell on the ground while the officers continued to assault them. In the meantime some local people gathered there and told to the said officers that the victims were innocent and have never involved in smuggling. It is only then the officers let the victims go.

Once free from the custody and assault of the BSF officers, the victims returned home and sought medical treatment. They had suffered serious injuries from the assault and could not move for the next few days due to pain. They were also unable to go to work.

On 15 October the victims Abdur Rahman, Ramjan Sardar, Baburali Mondal, Rasul Sardar and Motiar Gain submitted a written complaint about the incident before the Additional Superintendent of Police, Barasat, North 24 Pargans and Mahiuddin Gain submitted a written complaint before the Superintendent of Police, Barasat, North 24 Pargans regarding the incident. However, so far the police have taken no action upon the complaint.

We have dismantled ULFA bases in Bangladesh, but, in exchange, you are killing our smugglers and small children in the border zone.

LeT terrorsts have no place in Bangladesh. They cannot be a reason for killing our citizens by the BSF troops.

I don't understand why BD's are sympethetic to smugglers? Indian BSF should not allow Indians to tresspass into BD... Why BD Border force allow children come in contact with BSF in the first place?

Look it is international border and we take it so serious... You are not allowed to break it... All Indians support stopping illegal migrants... Even by killing them... There is nothing wrong with that...

LeT travelled to Mumbai by sea.... It is not a great deal for them to travel to BD port and infiltrate into WB and attack Kolkatta through the porous border.

I don't think smugglers are good for the nation!

So what? This is what Indian Government and Indian people expect them to do! Ther are violent and a wall which protects the nation from external aggression. Good job BSF... Because of you we are living peacefully!

anyone can report the "incidents" to AHRC, they don't actually investigate on the exact cause and effect.
Although I hope BD and IN can resolve all pending border issues, a lot of progress has been made in this regard. It will put an end to civilian casualties.

The BSF, which has a long record of severe human rights abuses and members of India’s other security forces, are exempt from criminal prosecution unless specific approval is granted by the Indian government to undertake a prosecution in a particular case. This legally sanctioned impunity is even included in a new bill to prohibit torture under consideration in the Indian parliament. The bill, as presently drafted, will require approval from the central or a state government for a court to have jurisdiction over an offense committed by a public servant.

That is indian state sponsored radicalism and terrorism practiced by Indian forces.

That is indian state sponsored radicalism and terrorism practiced by Indian forces.
The same BSF is deployed in pakistan border, and any intruder from pakistan has a very high chance of being shot dead(same with Indian intruder in pakistan).
So what is special about bangladesh that they keep complaining about BSF(pakistani never complained).
If you are friendly neighbour, you should not try to infiltrate. Take a visa and then cross in designated places.
I have no sympathy for those Indians who try to cross too.

India should reconsider BSF killings for a better image of it in the world..

If you BD dnt want to understand by right way then its BSFs way to teach you (Not to cross Indian border )

You people force us to use this way ....
