Then it's puzzling why there are so many malnourished kids in India.

India has been self-sufficient in rice and wheat for many years.

Any food shortages are caused by problems in distribution, not food production.

There are many malnourished kids in China too, despite abundnace of food.

Hope you can see that mangos and staple crops like grains are different.

In rural India mangoes are used in almost everything. Rice, chutney, breads, sambhar... you can eat a whole meal from just mango-based dishes. I have done it before.

Mangoes can be considered vital to rural diets.

DO not Talk about Indian agriculture , we still use primitive tools ...though we have enough technologies in regard to agriculture but farmers are still implementing the old ones... then also we are near around China , imagine the day educated young one get into this business ...what will be the results...

though i would say that Punjab region is far more productive coz they are using new tech. and on the eastern side we are not though eastern side has more alluvium soil due to ganges .....

Corruption? Inefficiency? Sounds like a government backed genocide.

Says the guy whose former leader initiated the largest famine in human history...

Really, it's all about ensuring more equitable access to technologies. If we can accomplish that food production can become more efficient, and the country can become more urbanized/developed.

Why are we comparing India and China presently. India is still 10 -12 years behind in every aspect. But it is likely to catch up in later half of this century. CITI is predicting it to happen within the first half. 40 years is too long to predict. Who knows India might just cross China? But obsessing over this thread is silly.

Corruption? Inefficiency? Sounds like a government backed genocide. India is suffering from an artificial famine imposed by the New Delhi regime then. By Western standards, if it involves the government, and people starve, it's a genocide. That's the standard they use for North Korea, Russia, China, etc. Even worse though, is India actually producing enough. North Korea has an excuse. They just can't farm. India does not.

You can call it genocide if that makes you happy. But I wouldn't as it is not state sponsored or encouraged. It is a bunch of heartless , greedy people stealing what is meant for the poor. The one thing the government will not do is to knowingly starve its people. As it is most basic need to fulfill if they have to get voted next time.

How was it his fault? Inefficient distribution, bad weather and corruption were to blame. It's the same problem as India.

So when India does it, it's a "government-backed genocide", and when China does it, everything except the government is to blame.

Nice logic you have there :disagree:

160 million. Where do you go off rounding off by 40 million?

Isn't that what the World Factbook does?

Or does China have exactly one billion, three hundred thirty million, five hundred sixty four thousand, seven hundred and twenty-one people?

The point is, nitpicking on such statistics is a tedious and pointless exercise. Statistics that measure large quantities (like population, GDP, etc.) are only useful in the general ideas that they convey.

No, I am laughing at the Westerners who blame everything on developing world governments and not on problems caused by the west, such as tax havens, etc.

there isnt any country free frm corruption .not even china....indian govt comes under fire cause of liberal media which isnt under the control of govt......cant say that about our eastern neighbour can we??

the only country we can laugh at about corruption is India or Congo because we're pretty bad in this aspect, but at least the politicians don't steal food from the poor. Our media reports on corruption all the time, and when China's ranking moved up on Transparency International's website people thought it was a hoax.

yaa i know that but in india the things are starting to move in positive direction mainly due to a reactive media .yes we are lagging but moving fast
