What's new

India left "disappointed" as US goes ahead with F-16 sale to Pakistan.

Okay then let me explain.
I see this deal as a part of US's carrot and stick approach towards Pakistan.
Taliban has made tremendous advance in Afghanistan and a major spring offensive is expected after the snow melts.
US will soon be in an election mood, and Obama administration will not leave any stone turned to keep media silent on Afghanistan issue. The govt was under tremendous pressure to withdraw the troops. Obama administration can not afford to have a another Iraq like situation in Afghanistan. So they want Pakistan to substitute their army/airforce.
Now, this part of the story makes sense.
But the issue arises when you look at it from India's POV. Your country and mine are not best buddies, lack in trust is the reason behind India's reaction.
War on terrorism now feels farcical. But then,America has its promises to keep......

I differ from your analysis. And also the reasons behind India's protest. It is neither 8 F-16s nor the economic aid which has hurt India, it is the signal of how things are about to unfold in the region. If you think we are about to take over the task from US in Afghanistan, you are dead wrong. We neither wish to nor Afghans too keen on that. Sorry lady, ain't happening.

Here is what is happening. Pakistan has been able to convince US that this mess needs a political settlement between all afghan ethnicities. Although it will still be far from perfect, that's the best that can be achieved. Now importantly however, US now understands that India is a destabilizing factor in Afghanistan and its role remains counter productive to peace efforts in Afghanistan and bordering regions of Pakistan. Recent push to meditate and settle the conflict has an interesting absent player; India. US as well as China and Russia fully support peace talks and India does not. Kabul government is increasingly realising the facts and is reluctantly joining the process. If it goes all as planned, India remains out of future settlement. 8 F-16s are not a major diplomatic victory. They are just a signal of the diplomatic victory achieved in convincing US our point of view and exposing the role of India in destabilizing Afghanistan and Pakistan. US now understands, in my reckoning that peace can not be achieved unless concerns of Pakistan and Pashtun population of Afghanistan are addressed. Which in simple terms means India stops propagation of terrorism inside Pakistan using Afghan soil. When that happens, a comparative peace can return denying space for terror sanctuaries and thus paving way for US exit. Remember those dossiers you guys used to mock? They were lot more than what you credited them for. So that's what is happening and that's why so much pain in Indian capital. A decade of effort and billions of dollars are about to go down the drain as India is cut to its size.

The Pakistan Air-force has just acquired 8, F-16 Fighter Jets from the United States of America. On Saturday, the Indians caught fire from the topnotch deal Pakistan has just made. And mind you, this isn’t the first time India wore a bib and a diaper. They have always cried about something or the other. However, in this deal it wasn’t the Aircraft that hurt the Indians – it was the Pakistan-USA ties that are coming to a long halted beginning.

The Indian Foreign Secretary showed his displeasure of the deal to the US Ambassador, saying:
“We are disappointed at the decision of the Obama Administration to notify the sale of F-16 aircrafts to Pakistan. We disagree with their rationale that such arms transfers help to combat terrorism.” See more:

Indian every time cry so that Pakistan Air Force go for F16s only don't go for any other type of fighters IAF by their own they rejected f16s offered of USA instead they went for Rafael fighters skipping the F16s...

Absurd mentality like this affect Indians from ordinary walk of life all the way to top echelons of government..an India..who manages to grab even a minuscule seat in corporate power starts to think the same way...the world does not revolve around India..

Not to mention there is a serious back lash against this artificial inflow of cheap labor and is hurting the economic competency...and with Indians being the sole beneficiary it is also creating racial tensions..it takes a few crack heads to rise up and create the propaganda of economic terrorism by cheap immigrant invasion..and then the fun part begins for Indians..

Neither revolve around Pakistan .
Did I said that world is revolving around India?
US is looking for their own interests and we will also look for mine .

US issues ‘national interest’ certification for fighter jets sale

WASHINGTON: The US Defence Security Cooperation Agency has issued a certification saying that it’s in US national interest to sell eight F-16 fighter jets and related equipment to Pakistan.

The certification is needed to satisfy the US Congress where some key lawmakers are strongly opposing the sale. A national interest certification, however, is rarely challenged.

“This proposed sale contributes to US foreign policy objectives and national security goals by helping to improve the security of a strategic partner in South Asia,” says the certification sent to Congress with the sale notification.

“The proposed sale improves Pakistan’s capability to meet current and future security threats…and enhance(s) Pakistan’s ability to conduct counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations,” the agency informs the lawmakers.

It also clarifies that the proposed sale will not alter the basic military balance in the region (and) there will be no adverse impact on US defence readiness as a result of this.

The clarification rejects India’s claim that the proposed sale will alter military balance in South Asia and it also disregards objections raised during recent congressional debates that it will adversely affect US defence interests in Afghanistan where Washington still has thousands of troops.

According to the US Defence Security Cooperation Agency, the eight F-16 fighter jets and related equipment will cost Pakistan $699.04 million.

On Tuesday, Secretary of State John Kerry sent his department’s annual budget to Congress, proposing a financial assistance of $859.8m for Pakistan, which includes $265m for military hardware. This indicates that Pakistan will have to bear most of the costs for the F-16 deal.

On Friday, the US State Department informed Congress that it “has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to Pakistan for F-16 Block 52 Aircraft, equipment, training, and logistics support.

You're funny.
It has nothing to do with India really.
Remember those dossiers you guys used to mock?
And...you're have taken off on a tangent.
Trust me it's nothing to do with anything that you have mentioned.

Okay now, let me give you the real reason,

This puts a bigger responsibility on Pak to prove itself and its commitment towards annihilating the terror groups operating from its soil.

Are you pretending or you are really that simple minded, Miss? You really believe US Embassy in India would come out with words bashing India? Here is a clue. For a moment forget the PR statements and just see the actions. Pakistan more than any country in this region has shown resolve and ability to fight terrorism. US understands that. They also understand India is a paper tiger when it comes fighting a real difficult fight in hostile areas such as Afghanistan and its bordering areas. Not only that, India has exploited the situation to its advantage and has been the biggest hurdle in one of key component of US anti terror strategy that is Afghan-Pakiatan cooperation. You guys have supported conditions where tens of thousands innocents lost their lives both in Pakistan and Afghanistan only to fulfil your desire to destabilise Pakistan through terror proxies. Your dirty game has cost this region many many innocent lives and hundereds of billions of dollars to US and Pakistan. If you are into some research thing, read up US statements about India's role from 5 years ago and then compare it to today.

Sorry madam, India has no role to play in the future calculus of Afghanistan, try you will though. US, China, Russia and Pakistan are all on same page on this one. 8 F-16s are signal of that. They aren't significant on their own (we already have them by the dozens). Understanding between US and Pakistan is pretty significant.

Dumb journo being his usual dumb self. Don't pay too much attention to him!
