I wonder why? The Midwest is rattled by tornadoes every year causing billions in damage as most houses are made of timber. Why don't they build with steel and concrete knowing full well the vulnerability of building frail wooden houses?
Labor costs are expensive as the lowest wage is hovering at 8 dollars per hour. Talking about Buffalo, A simple 2 storeyed townhouse in the suburb will cost upward of $800,000, compared to ~$100,000 as it is now.
So it's cheaper to make it with timber, and insure it against any climatic woes.
