Indian misunderstandings about Chinese are quite severe.
1. Chinese think and talk more about Japan, USA and Taiwan a lot more; they do not think India is enemy
2. Chinese (current days) do understand they have less freedom than Indians but don't seem to mind it that much
3. Chinese do understand and respect Indian cultural history and old and contemporary contributions
4. In terms of size, resources and state of modernization, they (Chinese) are 15 years ahead of us (India) - they have paid a huge price to get there (freedom. religion, 1-baby etc...)

Indian mindset about China has been driven a lot by the immature Nehruvian ordeal which led to loss of territory in 1965. We have to come out of that - China was different then and India was different then.

Now Indians are more resourceful, more assertive and more capable. China needs India and India needs China.

BTW I wanted to know why Chinese use foreign writing to learn their own language, I never learned my language is a foreign script. So much for linguistic pride of Chinese.

India's de facto national language is English.

China's national language is Standard Chinese (Mandarin).

But why should that come as a surprise to you? All of India's borders were drawn by the British, unless you think "MacMahon" is an Indian name.
