India, Iran discuss underwater gas line bypassing Pak

You are 100% rite, but your post does not cover the war time scenario, THE SCENARIO due to which India wants to lay its own pipeline. I think a gas pipe line passing thorough see and off course near to PAK sea will be very much vulnerable :cheesy: So India is at lose.....:victory::pakistan:

Well an undersea pipeline at a depth of 1000-2000 mtr is much less vulnerable to sabotage than one over land. It will be much easier for IAF to drop a 250 pounder on Iran-Pakistan pipeline(cutting gas supply to Pak) than for Pak submarines to first find the pipeline on vast ocean floor and then to destroy it using some means(has never been done before).

We don't need to find it in war time, bcz its an open sea , anyone can go there, we will locate it rite after you lay it, then in war time it would be a matter of seconds to destroy it :yahoo::taz::victory:

Jalan ke mare kuch bhi likh rahe hain log......

The pipeline will be having investment from other countries across the globe along with Iran and India......and attacking this would be a direct attack on Iran as well....who can go ahead and shut the gas supply to Pakistan just for sake of revenge...... result.... crisis in Pakistan.....

India should instead look for shale gas. Recently Reliance has done that.

India should not buy any gas whether through Pakistan or through undersea, if its price is based on price of Brent crude.

Because this will make the gas extremely costly.

Domestically the price of gas is around 4-5 $ per mmbtu. While the gas from Iran will shoot to 15-20 $ mmbtu considering the oil price to shoot above $150 per barrel and more after 2015 when this pipeline will be operational. Add to that the transition fees the cost of pipeline and so on the cost could easily jump to $ 25 per mmbtu which will be 5 times costlier than the domestic gas which will still be around 5-7 $ mmbtu after 2015.

Yes you do care....otherwise there would not have been such brouhaha created by Pakistani leadership over IPI pipeline.

IPI was THE one chance Pakistan could have to negotiate with India from a position of power. Right now what all Pakistan has to offer India is just peace of mind.:woot: Now even IPI looks obscure. I think underwater pipeline is beter for India. That way India need not negotiate with Pakistan. Meanwhile it can work on Kashmir reconciling with the people and lifting AFSPA and taking away army. End of matter. This pipeline may be costly but will help India hasten the process of peace making with Pakistan.
As far as Pakistan is concerned, they will loose any chance of engagement unless of course they make war or jihad which is unlikely to bring any gains. So the doors are closing down. Make hay when there is sun. Try engaging India right now. India can act bitchier in future during any negotiations.

From a financial perspective it is seemingly very costly , but security is a top priority here. India has emergency gas supplies in KG basin. Or it could be that this is not feasible at all and Indian diplomats are playing with Pakistanis.

I think this is more secure way rather than join Pakistan with same project ... because by this Pakistan cant blackmail us in any case

When did Pakistan blacak mail India in IPI.
We have quitely offered you air and land transit facility valued to billion of dollars.
As a result we are suffering from terrorism because most of transit carriers are loaded with arms and explosives, destined for TTP and BLA and Pakistan is paying billions in war with TTP.
This is tangible calculation, but in untangible calc. Pakistan is also loosing its rap value of which cannot be estimated.

Now, i think Indian govt. use TTP to black mail to Pakistan for keeping his mouth shut and not demand due charges for all the granted facilities.

Now comming to sea gas pipe line under sea; i think it is not feasable on commercial grounds and even if India insanely decide to go ahead.... Pakistan would not allow that considering the recent accident of shore US gulf.
In this experience of containing the oil flow, scientist and engineers are discovering new phenomenans which were never ever considered in designs engineering.

And this under sea pipeline will not give Pakistan any opportunity to do so.

It would have helped the project cost to come down for Pakistan as well. so Pakistan was not doing any big favor to India.

As a result we are suffering from terrorism because most of transit carriers are loaded with arms and explosives, destined for TTP and BLA and Pakistan is paying billions in war with TTP.

And how is this related to Gas pipeline.

This is tangible calculation, but in untangible calc. Pakistan is also loosing its rap value of which cannot be estimated.
Again this has nothing to do with Gas Pipeline.

Again what the hell has this to do with Gas pipeline.

Now comming to sea gas pipe line under sea; i think it is not feasable on commercial grounds and even if India insanely decide to go ahead....
With a cost of 4 Billion USD and other countries joining in to own the infrastructure...I don't think it will be a problem for India ......though creating a Iran Pakistan pipeline looks to be challenging for Pakistan due to poor financial conditions.

Pakistan would not allow that considering the recent accident of shore US gulf.

Pakistan has no control over International waters ...just like India ...so India can do anything in International water....it is out of bounds for Pakistan.

Pakistan can o to UN and thats the max you guys can do.

In this experience of containing the oil flow, scientist and engineers are discovering new phenomenans which were never ever considered in designs engineering.

You just answered your objection ....the new Iran India Under sea pipeline will have latest technologies incorporated in it....which will include findings from recent US gulf leak.

Undersea pipeline is the safest solution between land/sea based pipeline.

Pakistani forces can easily find out undersea pipeline but will not harm it. As it will have international implications and the most importantly it will be like attacking Iran. And Iran will not appreciate it, they are also dependednt on Iran.

And china will also not like it as it will spoil Chinese interest and game plan.

Actually we don't need that gas pipeline, as we have discovered huge gas in India itself.

There are few more discoveries of gas in India by RIL and ONGC. But they are delaying their announcement as it will create artificial scarcity of gas and they can raise the prices.

Even if we want that Iranian gas we can get it through ships as we are doing with Oman it will be the most economical and safest option. And blockade of our route will give us excuse to have a navel base in gulf. And it will be very much beneficial for us.

Uptill now India was beating the drum of high price and saying pricing formula is the biggest reason its backing off But suddenly you are willing to spend higher price to bring it underwater :)

Geopolitics lady....its bigger than what people on PDF think.

Do u think it as easy as eating a jalebi..?!?!

The average depth of the Arabian sea is about 2000 metres and so how do u propose to destroy a pipeline on the sea floor..?

The maximum depth a submarine can go without getting crushed is about 300 metres (that too only ur agostas). Go figure. :cheesy:

Do you think we care?

If u didnt care...we wuld not be having his thread and discussion.
