A minister who has claimed that the internet was invented thousands of years ago by ancient Indians is being met with ridicule.

Biplab Deb, who is the chief minister of the north-eastern state of Tripura, made the comments at a public function on Tuesday evening.

He cited an example from the ancient Hindu epic Mahabharata to prove his point, but has not found many takers.

"Tripura CM Biplap Deb" is trending on Twitter, with many Indians mocking him.

Mr Deb, in fact, joins a fairly long list of Indian ministers in the current Hindu nationalist BJP government - including Prime Minister Narendra Modi - who have claimed many modern-day scientific or technological achievements were invented many centuries ago.

In 2014 Mr Modi told a gathering of doctors and medical staff at a Mumbai hospital that cosmetic surgery existed in ancient India.

More recently, in September, junior education minister Satyapal Singh raised a few eyebrows when he claimed that the airplane was first mentioned in the ancient Hindu epic Ramayana

. . . .
So the Indians are ridiculing any leader who makes a fool of himself with daft comments. Such a far cry from a communist nation which bans Winnie the Pooh.

What more do you want Sully3?

I believe the number of actual rapes is orders of magnitude higher.

We can learn that excessive doses of religion is anathema to scientific progress.
Don't be callous man...India has so much to offer...They had spaceships travelling in the intergalactic space at 100 times the speed of light and that 10,000 BC. Also they had internet, USB drives, plastic surgery, nuclear bombs, Maglev capable of speeds above Mach 2.0, hypersonic transport, and a lot of things you can't even imagine because they don't exist today. So China must learn from India.

Your thoughts about these great ancient Indians?

This is just one of many inventions India will claim. This is when ancient Indian religious beliefs are based in mythology. They turn it around and claim mythology as reality.
The sad thing is that they don’t know what ancient Indians had invented. They are waiting for others to invent them before taking credit.

Indians claim that most of their written history was destroyed and burned by invaders.

So they have to learn about their own history like Nalanda from Chinese texts:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nalanda

"Much of our knowledge of Nalanda comes from the writings of pilgrim monks from East Asia such as Xuanzang and Yijing who travelled to the Mahavihara in the 7th century. Vincent Smith remarked that "a detailed history of Nalanda would be a history of Mahayanist Buddhism". Many of the names listed by Xuanzang in his travelogue as products of Nalanda are the names of those who developed the philosophy of Mahayana."

Buddism was wiped out from India though, so who really burned all those historical documents?

India has no historic record is partially because India was not a country. It’s usually a sovereign than commission recording of history. Such as Han emperor Wu commissioned the grand history. India was not a country so they have no systematic recording of history.
