The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Sunday inducted new four strike-capable Heron Mark 2 drones at a forward air base in the northern sector in a major boost to the country's defence sector. According to the commanding officer of the drone squadron Wing Commander Pankaj Rana, the drones can carry out surveillance from across the country in a single sortie itself, reported news agency ANI.

“The Heron Mark 2 is a very capable drone. This is capable of longer endurance and has ‘beyond line of sight’ capability," he told ANI.

Last year, the Indian Army's surveillance capabilities have received a major boost as Israel has delivered 4 advanced Heron TP drones under the emergency procurement clause to keep an eye on the Chinese activities in the Ladakh & Eastern sector. These drones are operational now and are far more advanced than the Herons in the existing inventory and their anti-jamming capability is much better than their previous versions, the sources said.

All about the Heron Mark 2 drones:
●The four new Heron Mark-2 drones can be equipped with long-range missiles and other weapons systems.

●The drones have a satellite communication capability with a long-desired capability to the IAF, as they can operate at very long distances for close to 36 hours at a stretch.

●The drones can also laser illuminate enemy targets from very long ranges to help fighter aircraft destroy them using their long-range weapons, reported ANI.

●The Heron Mark 2 drones, which can provide 24x7 surveillance of targets, have a longer endurance while will ensure that multiple missions can be flown and multiple sectors can be addressed in one mission itself.

●The drones can also operate in any weather and on any terrain.

●According to defence officials, the drones are capable of being equipped with different types of weapons as the original equipment manufacturers can equip them with air-to-ground missiles, air-to-ground anti-tank weapons, and bombs.

Meanwhile, the IAF is also inducting 31 Predator drones which are in the high altitude, long endurance category, and will help the Indian Navy to cover large tracts of the Indian Ocean region. While 15 of these drones will be operated by the Indian Navy, the other two forces - Indian Army and IAF - will get eight drones each.

Shameful that a country of 1.4 billiion people has to buy drones off a country of 10 million people (Israelis). Shows how far the Indians have fallen.

Chinese have literally sold thousands of ucavs and even your army uses civilian dji drones.

While Kaveri has been a work in progress since decades. No indian UAV even if assembled in sight expect under development.

Even Pakistan is making it's own UCAVs while also working with Turks and Chinese.

. . .
Don’t know why do these Pakroaches think that whatever India can do Pakshitstanis can also replicate the same, these coomerfags don’t even have expertise in building basic motorcycle engines let alone advanced UCAVs, avionics, and the dream of building advanced Active Electronically Scanned Array radars that will require compound semiconductor (Gallium Arsenide or Gallium Nitride) fabrication plants is nothing more than a joke.

Their avionics R&D is so primitive that Porkis have to do Joint Ventures which CAC China (openly accepted on PAC Kamra website and I’ve mentioned it before) for local assembly of avionics used in JF-17 Blunder. We very well know the industrial capabilities of this pre-industrial shithole when it comes to manufacturing of engineering goods.

Now please don’t tell me that Fuckistan is going to build an advanced air-to-air BVRAAM without importing semi-knocked down kits from China.
Pakis industrial, educational and R&D base is primitive but still inbreds can directly develop GaN radar, towed array, project hazam, lauda lassan etc..

I guess these all things will be pindigenous just like their missiles.

Lol
Why you getting abusive though?

Lundjeet, bhn paish na kar, tarrekay say baat kar.

Its not shameful as long as nation can BUY and NOT BEG...
No free lunch in the world son.

You should do a oniks aka brahmos. But the Jews are shrewd businessmen.
I agree, that’s why under new contract all UAVs will be made in India under full ToT.
