But Indian policies and activities over the last 37 years uncovered the truth that India militarily involved in our war of liberation not for our sake, but entirely for the sake of India?s hegemonic and economic interest.

You guys needed 37 years to figure that out? I can tell you it was clear to American policymakers right away - Henry Kissinger discusses it in his memoir, The White House Years. Nevertheless, the creation of Bangladesh was the right thing to do, because the political decay of Pakistan was so great, and the slaughter of East Pakistanis by the (mostly) West Pakistan army was so terrible.

Indira then insinuated to the Nixon Administration that rump Pakistan was itself properly a part of India. The U.S. responded by sending a fleet into the Bay of Bengal as a warning. I don't know if that had any effect in holding back India's hand or not. I also don't know if Pakistanis themselves would have been happier if Indira's wishes had been fulfilled. It is easy to imagine that a reunited Indian-Pakistani Army would have been by far the most powerful force in South Asia so maybe we wouldn't have today's messes: Taliban rule in the North, Maoist rule in the Northeast, and a bloody Tamil separatist movement in the South.

The Indians were involved in EP starting in the late sixties. They supported violent proxy groups that contributed to the unrest, and eventually led to the chaos and atrocities that happened.

I am pointing this out since your argument appears to suggest that the Indians got involved becasue of the atrocities, when the fact is that they were involved far earlier, contributed to atrocities carried out by their proxies, and therefore were involved in creating the atmosphere and events they used as justification.

What does the Sri Lankan conflict have to do with India-Pakistan?

And what Maoist rule in the Northeast? You need to get you facts right.

Everyone understood India's intent a long time ago but some Indians here are in denial thinking that BD should be forever grateful for what was clearly not done on unselfish grounds.

The rest of your statement is the Akhand Bharat theory that can be found in my book The India Doctrine (1947-2007).

.
Indians do not have any legal and moral rights to claim that it liberated Bangladesh. When we were on the verge of victory and liberated about 99 per cent portion of Bangladesh

I stopped reading after this, this statement itself tells you the credentiols of the article and the writer. Plus it's posted by Munshi, you know it's going be against India.

.
Lol. Without India, there would practically have been no Bangladesh. I do see a lot of Bangladeshi's trying to fool themselves that India jumped in only at the end. It was India that started and fanned the damned thing, armed the mukti bahini and whatnot. Yet in the end, IA had to enter directly.

France helped free the American Colonies from British rule for entirely selfish reasons, but that doesn't mean we Americans aren't grateful for it. The U.S. has spent billions of dollars on military aid and economic development in Pakistan when it could be argued that it was in the geopolitical interests of the U.S. to let Pakistan fail. Some countries and peoples are simply more generous and kind-hearted than others.

I wish you would let Pakistan "fail". No more creating a Taliban, no more Great Games in Afghanistan, no more Durand Line, no more stupid interest rates on loans,no more bombing back to the stone age, no more mass genocides in war etc etc.

When do you think brilliant idea may come about?

I should have added that India has screwed us over since doesn't help matters. Look at the threads on water sharing. Bangladesh no longer feels any gratitude for India watching their behavior over the last 37 years. Actually that gratitude evaporated within the first 3 years of independence and eventually led to the death of Sheikh Mujib whose party was pushing us ever closer to India. India is no saint and should stop pretending it is because the world is catching on to you your games. You had a good thing going for about 30 years with everyone thinking India is really a liberal democracy but the ugly face of Indian expansionism and its fascist tendencies are apparent and those good old days are now over.

With this much hatered toward India, you will not see anyting that India has done for BD.

Is there any doubt about the tittle? Why Hindu India would come to the rescue of Muslims when the same Muslims separated from India 1947 based on two nation theory and lets not forget Muslim from bengle were forefront for the cause of Pakistan. Only the fool, ignorant box mentality people will believe that India helped east Pakistani form Sheer love. It was India's interest to break Pakistan for it's own strategic gain. We screwed up and our enemy succeed. only hope here is that Bangladesh still exist today as Muslim majority state with Islamic identity.

Now that we know India drag itself into sovereign territory of Pakistan than it's a fare game for Pakistan to take revenge when rite time arrive..

India, Bangladesh to jointly fight terror, sign two pacts

Dhaka, Feb 9 (IANS) India and Bangladesh Monday rejuvenated their multi-faceted ties by signing two economic pacts and joining hands to combat the growing menace of terrorism in the region.

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who is on a day-long visit to Dhaka, held talks with his Bangladeshi counterpart Dipu Moni on an entire gamut of bilateral issues, including security, terrorism, intensification of economic ties, border management and improving connectivity.

The two sides after the ministerial talks signed two pacts on bilateral trade and bilateral investment protection.

“These would further strengthen the framework for trade and investment between both countries,” Mukherjee said at a joint press conference with Moni.

This is the first high-level visit from India to Bangladesh since Sheikh Hasina, known for her pro-India views, assumed office early this year after winning a landslide victory in the December 2008 parliamentary polls.

“As a close and friendly neighbour, India warmly welcomes the return to multi-party democratic politics in Bangladesh and looks forward to closely working with the newly elected government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to further strengthen the ties between both countries,” Mukherjee said.

Underlining India’s hope for better security cooperation with Bangladesh under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, Mukherjee urged Bangladesh to combat terrorism jointly.

“An area of concern for both countries is to combat the growing menace of extremism and terrorism in the region. Closer cooperation on security issues is the need of the hour,” he said.

“We should move to address such issues with the understanding that both our countries will benefit in the long run,” he stressed.

The Bangladeshi side backed Mukherjee’s call for jointly combating terrorism, official sources said.

Mukherjee’s visit to Dhaka comes at a time when an internal Pakistani probe has reportedly found the links between a militant group in Bangladesh and the Mumbai terror strikes in India.

Mukherjee also unveiled the model of the 2,800 core shelters, which India would be constructing soon in the 11 villages affected by cyclone ‘Sidr’ in Nov 2007.

India has already provided Bangladesh aid including cash assistance of $10 million, essential items including rice and milk powder worth $40 million. In the aftermath of the 2007 cyclone, India sent an emergency relief package of essential commodities and waived ban on export by sending 500,000 tonnes of rice to Bangladesh.

Now the Indians are putting up all types of irrelevant information. The thread is on Indian intentions. Stick to that plz.
