India has highest no. of newborn deaths: UN

Thi is exactly my point. For a " pretty much a developed first world country", it is not acceptable to be in the top five in this list !

It is fine, if a future superpower is the #1.

And you can donate some money to help to make it acceptable.

pakistanis making fun of indias nmr when their % is higher than india
and stick to % for comparison as india has 1bn population where as pakistan has 200m population and its stupid to compare on actual numbers

More new born babies die in India annually than in any other country, even though the number of neonatal deaths around the world has seen a slow decline, a new study by the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said. New born deaths decreased from 4.6 million in 1990 to 3.3 million in 2009, and fell slightly faster in the years since 2000, according to the study led by researchers from WHO, Save the Children and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
The study, which covers a 20-year-period and all the 193 WHO member states, found that new born deaths - characterised as deaths in the first four weeks of life (neonatal period) – account for 41 % of all child deaths before the age of five.

Almost 99 % of the newborn deaths occur in the developing world, with more than half taking place in the five large countries of India, Nigeria, Pakistan, China and Congo.

"India alone has more than 900,000 newborn deaths per year, nearly 28 % of the global total," WHO said, adding that India had the largest number of neonatal deaths throughout the study.

Nigeria, the world's seventh most populous country, ranked second in new born deaths – up from fifth in 1990. Three quarters of neonatal deaths around the world are caused by pre-term delivery, asphyxia and severe infections, such as sepsis and pneumonia.

WHO pointed out that two thirds or more of these deaths can be prevented with existing interventions.

do you have any idea on how to compare numbers? its called statistics! the "number" of deaths is high because the "number" of people is high.. compare the % values for all the coutries.. and btw, its usually measured in "number of deaths per 1000 births".. india is rated 152 30.5 deaths per 1000 births (higher rank is worser performance), china is 120.. 20 deaths per 1000 and pakistan is ranked 193 - 65 deaths per 1000!

please compare apples to apples.

. .
BTW notice that India accounts for a greater share of deaths than births, while China accounts for greater share of births than deaths.

Another slap to the face of some certain Indians who talk about "pollution" and "water safety" in a country with 1st world life spans, whereas their own country is African.

Perhaps it doesn't take account of the hundreds of millions killed annually due to the forced one child policy.

The lives that are snuffed out before they could ever see the light of the day.

That on top of those who can't make the great leap or can't make iron in their backyard.

It is a foolish game trying to score cheap points on grave issues like these.

Your insulting Africa now and btw China is pretty much a developed first world country, who are those Indians that compare a country like like India to China?

Aaj ka quota ho gaya, lick karane ka?

. . .
In this case I find China's one child policy has benefited in lowering the infant mortality numbers in absolute numbers

However the greater credit i believe goes to this :

In China's case its 91%

Also this report has some interesting stuff.

So, is it Pakistan's fault that India has seven times the population of Pakistan, when only 4.5 times the land area? Why are you bringing Pakistan & China into this, I just quoted the original article from the Indian source. You're just another Indian troll trolling under the cover of the US flags.

india is rated 152 , but the title of the thread gives a impression that india got first rank...

You're the one that's comparing, not me. The original article states that India has the highest number of newborn deaths. That is reality, along with the fact that India is responsible for 28% of the whole world's newborn deaths. There is no comparison. Again, there are a few countries with almost the size of India or bigger than it, & they have much less population than India. India's population is its own problem & responsibility, not anyone else's.

I think that honor is totally yours. You are the one hiding under the US flags.

It is foolish to talk about land area and population here. The population that a country can support is not only determined by the total area. 90% of Japan is mountainous for example. Much of Pakistan is arid desert. China has less cultivable area than India despite three times the total size. Most of its population is concentrated near the East coast in a size roughly similar to India.

I knew you would come up with this kind of thread after getting exposed on your ignorance about Taliban. Just so predictable.

India and Pakistan (and several other countries) have to make much more efforts in this area. Despite a 90% improvement over two decades, the situation is still grim in India. Much of the blame can go to the corrupt and slothful government machinery.

check few posts of your fellow pakistani and chinese members,i am in general responding to them
yes indias population is its own problem but if you apply % to population then the one with lower population will show lower affectd population where as a country with high population will show higher affectd population, so its natural for the second most populated country in the world to have highest numbers of people affectd in actual terms i dont see any breaking news in it
