Kathmandu, April 7 (PTI) India today gifted 40 vehicles to a Nepalese committee that monitors Maoist combatants and their arms.

Deputy Chief of Mission in Indian Embassy, Kathmandu Joydeep Mukharjee handed over the vehicles to Jaya Dev Shrestha, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction amidst a function in Kathmandu today.

These vehicles were used for monitoring of Maoist combatants and their arms by the United Nations Mission in Nepal, which had closed its operation in Nepal in January.

These vehicles were earlier provided by government of India to UNMIN to be used for its peace mission in Nepal.

These vehicles will come under the arms monitoring Special Committee comprising representatives from major political parties.

In response to Government of Nepal''s request and as a demonstration of India''s continued commitment and support to the peace process in Nepal, Government of India had transferred these vehicles being used by UNMIN to the Government of Nepal, an Indian Embassy press release said.

India is ready to provide any kind of support to Nepal in the peace process in whatever way it wants, Mukherjee said talking to media persons after handing over the vehicles.
