In what was expected to be a close encounter, Pakistan matches India as they ended the first half trailing 22-24.

But India showed its superiority in the second opening up a 15-point lead that proved to be decisive.

This is the first time the championship has been played outside of India and saw eight teams contesting for the winner's prize.

Punjab deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who was present at the venue and the man responsible for popularizing kabaddi at the global stage, said the tournament was just a preview of things to come in the World Cup that his state will be hosting in November.

Upon India's win, Badal announced a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh for the team.

The Indian team also had some individual accolades coming their way with Sandeep Singh adjudged the best raider and Ekam Singh Dhaliwal declared the best stopper.

Hosts Iran and Nepal won the bronze medal as losing semi-finalists.

India remained unbeaten through the event
:partay: having beaten Afghanistan (69-20) and Sri Lanka (72-32) on the first day, accounting for Iran (67-26) the next day and then going past Nepal (61-42) on the semi-finals.
