India forced to import 124 T-90 tanks from Russia. Unable to build enough on their own within allotted time frame.

"Military parity." The Ministry of Defence of India has decided to import 124 of the T-90 from Russia, gather 272 of the Russian car kits and another 300 on its own, said today tribuneindia.com.

This decision was dictated by the fact that the local industry nedodala 40% of tanks. Instead of the planned 300 T-90 local production industry has been able to give in 2013 only 167 cars. Also scheduled to produce 124 tanks proprietary Arjun.

Production in India 300 T-90 tanks had been scheduled in 2006-2010, but Russia for six years obstructed the transfer of production documentation, technology (transfer of technology - ToT), played a negative role and the fact that the Russian manufacturer of tanks refused share technology assembly of critical components, such as guns. The problem is compounded by delays in the adoption of alternative solutions. Factory for the production of ammunition and could not provide a "modified chemistry" for the manufacture of barrels of guns T-90, but had experience of producing the main armament of T-72.

If the Russians canrt live up to their contracts, thats their fault. If the OFB cannot build tanks fast enough with 100% TOT,its theirs.


Its time to develop the FMBT and leave the T series behind for good. A private sector manufacturer would be superior to OFB if given the chance.

why cant any of our our Defence PSUs ever do things on time.. the whole country gets f***d up for their slowpoke chalta hai attitude. Be it HAL or OFBs everything needs a complete overhaul. We need professional folks with time managed solutions not decades of delays.

Sadly we end up paying more for such atrocious delays.. ppl should not forget its tax payers money only which is used so of course it should be used more wisely and in better fashion rather than use it bcz of mismanagement and delays. An enquiry needs to be done and strict action needs to be taken

Only time bound quality performance should guarantee more work or else kick out the management

But there is a flip side. Most private defense contractors have flourishing R&D departments in USA. That does not exist in India. Most Indian private companies do not even have full-fledged R&D departments, let alone hire PhDs.

L&T is increasing its R&D. The Arihant project really boosted its' R&D. Tata has long had a very good research wing. But think about a company like Reliance. It is India's largest company by capitalization, and its research wing is a joke.

Excellent post. I myself already said it on here several times to my Indian friends who all seem to think Russia is their so called 'all weather/best friend'. There is no such thing in politics/business. If there was, then Russia will have long given/transfer to India all its full engine/Tank/Submarine tech to India for free. Afterall, what are friends for if not to help each other without asking for nothing in return? Do India has to be realistic and know it can rely on any other country but itself. If they think Russia or even our governments in the West/U.S will transfer them their best/latest/core tech, then they will have to wait untill JESUS returns to earth.

I dont blame though bro. Every country carries out Cyber espionage as far they have the capabilties. Those who don't is those that dont have the capabilities, kind of similar to poor people always being 'polite,kind, humble and generous', but once they get rich/wealthy thats when you see their real colours as they all become arrogant/agressive.lol

Afterall, the end justifies the means, once you get there, everybody will even forget you ever lagged behind/acquired it through other means. Just like the U.S (and to some extent Russia) did when they outright kidnapped German scientist to work in their labs/companies after the second world war, something that helped advance U.S military/scientific projects alot. Same with U.S relying on our engine/tech in the past before moving on to their own and overtaking us. .....................

So i can't blame the Chinese at all, since they also invest alot in R&D while also carrying out cyber espionage like every major power in the wolrd does. You shouldn't also forget that the U.S is still by far the worlds largest cyber espionage power and spies on virtually all countries in this world, including we in Europe to gain commercial/technological advantage(not like i blame the U.S though, since in geo politics everything goes, whether bad or good doesnt matter as far your objectives are met, nobody cares.lol), the Chinese will be distant second, if they are indeed( i will say the U.K might be second).
