If I remember correctly, last year on the same day it was @Koovie who made an April fool thread about the Rafale deal being cancelled, much to the shock of several Indians. This time round, I thought that news of purchasing it would be more of a shocker. Who will create a thread about it next year?

. . . . .
I was going to bash the OP for bad spelling.

But too many April Fools thread today :)
I can only spot one missing letter, that's not so bad is it?

BTW check out the previous year's thread, some comments sound hilarious after a year and no progress:

Breaking: MMRCA cancelled due to suspected scam! :(

Like @Abingdonboy insisting that it was only a matter of weeks, though he did say he doesn't know how many weeks - so in his defence, it could be 53.:partay:

WAAAY too many.
Really? So then maybe I shouldn't post a thread in the Europe section that Russia has invaded Poland, or one in the Iran section that Israel has been wiped off the map, or one in the far east section that the missing Malaysian plane has been spotted near Abottabad, being loaded with green glowing stuff?

At that time the work share agreement seemed close to completion then it took a turn for the worse and yeah, a year on and here we are....

lol, you almost gave me a heart attack. I was going to have to admit I was wrong.
I am looking foreword to that day, I'll be mentioning you all day long bro ;)

. .
We shall see, everyday that goes by is everyday I'm correct; so saith the wise man.
But every day after it happens, will be everyday you are wrong. The former will be a finite number of days, the latter infinite. You will be right for a finite number of days, and wrong for eternity after that. So do you really want that bargain?

When it happens, it happens. I'll happily admit I am wrong, but until then I have nothing to worry about.

Though, if I'm honest, if this deal happens then I expect it to occur either by the end of this year or next. If it doesn't happen by the end of 2015, consider it dead permanently.

If it doesn't happen by the end of 2015, I would want it to be dead permanently. The justification for the expensive purchase grows weaker with every passing day, because the LCA will be taking shape to fill numbers, and 5th gen fighters will be appearing on the horizon for technological advantage. We might as well ramp up the production of MKIs and LCAs until 5th gen stuff materialize.

That always seemed like the best choice, I honestly never understood India's insistence of holding the MMRCA competition.

You have to remember that the compitetion was initiated when the IAF put forward an urgent requirement due to the imminent retirement of mig 21s, in the year 2001.:hitwall:

It made sense then, since LCA was not going to be ready for a while, and 5th gen fighters were almost unheard of. Little did the IAF know that the process of buying stop gap aircrafts would take almost as long as developing one from scratch.

I am reminded of a humorous question in 'Yes, minister' about the slowness of the bureaucratic machine - why is it that existing licensing procedures make building a house in the 20th century take longer than building a cathedral in the 12th century?
