In an abrupt act of defilement, India has challenged the US and EU buy defying their sanctions on Iran. In other words, giving the finger to the United States and Europe.

India has stood up to the US saying it will not cut its oil imports from Iran despite America and European Union's sanctions against Tehran. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee boldly made this clarification during his visit to the US on Sunday.

Mukherjee's clarification came just a day before Foreign Ministers of the EU meet in Brussels on Monday to decide on the embargo.

Washington wants buyers in Asia, which is Iran's biggest oil market, to cut imports to put further pressure on Tehran to rein in its nuclear ambition. But the US' new sanctions, which were authorised December 31, could make it difficult for New Delhi to pay Tehran for oil imports as they penalise financial institutions dealing with Iran's central bank.

India, which imports 12 per cent of its oil from the Islamic Republic, cannot do without Iranian oil, the official said.

"Iran contributes substantially and it is not possible for India to reduce the import from Iran drastically, because the countries that can meet the requirements of emerging economies, Iran is an important country amongst them," said Mukherjee.

So what is the big deal? We will do what is in our best interests. India has never supported unilateral intervention into another sovereign nation. Let the UNSC tell us, we will do it. Moreover, Iran is offering us very favourable terms for its oil, why should we refuse it? We don't want Iran destroyed and ruined like Iraq and Libya. If there has to be a regime change in Iran, we will prefer the Iranians to do it themselves and not be imposed from outside.

Why can't people just own up what country they are from?

India will do what's in its best interest. There are no sanctions by UN this time. India may chose not to comply to sanctions imposed by a powerful group of countries. End of story!

I believe matters like these are something, China, Pakistan and India can all agree too and perhaps form a joint mechanism to stand up against this bullying done by powerful nations specially the US of A. We can all agree that any more sanctions on Iran will seriously effect the people of Iran, specially sanctions on its Oil as both India and Pakistan have been the victim of such sanctions before and we know how it effects the life of ordinary people.
The countries in the region needs to take a stand and thumbs up for India for standing up.

It's a good decision by India. We cant let our national interests be dictated by Western nations whims and fancies. We have our own national interest which no other country would care about. Let US and EU look after their perceived threat from Iran. Iran is a friendly country towards us, that what matters most for India
