India decides to impose tariffs on 30 kinds of goods from United States
2018-06-17 10:04
The Indian government has suspended tariff concessions on 30 imports of goods from the United States as a response to the United States' tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from India.
According to the Indian Express, these goods include motorcycles, certain steel products, boric acid and lentils, with a customs value of approximately 240 million U.S. dollars.
The report said that India has informed the WTO (WTO) that this proposal to suspend tariff concessions is based on US taxation measures, using the form of taxation of specific commodities initiated by the United States. India wishes to clarify that the value of these commodities for suspending tariff concessions is equal to the value of India affected by U.S. tariffs. India also reserves the right to suspend tariff concessions on more goods.
It is reported that the United States will impose a tariff of 240 million yuan on India’s tariffs on steel and aluminum, including 198 million for steel and 0.42 million for aluminum. However, India exports only 4% of steel and 2% of aluminum in the United States. India has been looking for goods that can counter the United States’ tariff value.
