The military stalemate with China has lasted over two years, when the Chinese side sought to change the status quo unilaterally by sending huge numbers of soldiers against Indian positions.

During a recent visit to the Ladakh sector, Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande reviewed the security situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in light of the Chinese threat, for which the Indian Army has shifted six divisions previously deployed in counter-terrorism roles and after taking care of the Pakistan front, news agency PTI reported.

The military stalemate with China has lasted over two years, when the Chinese side sought to change the status quo unilaterally by sending huge numbers of soldiers against Indian positions.

The Indian Army has been rebalancing and realigning its troops, which were previously more equipped for the Pakistan threat than the problems posed by its northern frontiers.

According to senior government sources, once this rebalancing and realignment process was completed over the previous two years, two divisions (about 35,000 troops) have been pulled up from counter-terrorism tasks to oversee the China border deployment.

One division of the Rashtriya Rifles was removed from counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir and has now been deployed in the Eastern Ladakh area, joining with the three divisions already stationed there, they claimed.

Similarly, an Assam-based Division of the Tezpur-based Gajaraj Corps has been relieved of its counter-insurgency responsibilities in the state, and its new purpose is to protect the China border in the northeast, they claimed.

According to the sources, without this creation, there is no Army unit participating in counter-terrorism operations in the state of Assam.

The 17 Mountain Strike Corps, which previously had missions in the Ladakh region, has now been limited to the Northeast exclusively, with one additional Division headquartered in Jharkhand. Previously, the division was charged with carrying out strike actions throughout the Western front.

Two Army Divisions from Uttar Pradesh have been allocated to the Northern Command for the Ladakh theatre. According to them, the two units were formerly charged with fighting on the Western front in the event of a conflict.

Similarly, a Strike Corps Division headquartered in Uttarakhand has been shifted to the Central Command to oversee the whole Central region, where the Chinese have attempted incursions on many occasions, they claimed.

According to sources, the rebalancing has resulted in the deployment of two of the Army's four Strike Corps with offensive elements on the China border, when previous to April-May 2022, three of them were primarily responsible for Pakistan.

The significant deployment by India has also conveyed a message to the Chinese military that any attempt to change the status quo on the LAC would be futile, they added.

Following the massive deployment of the Chinese Army on Indian borders, India rushed in soldiers in the same fashion, sending roughly 50,000 troops there.

Time for Pakistan to beef up the Indian border.

kia zaroorat hai pakistani baadar pe ab fouj ki? ab hum ek hain akhand bharati fat chor is in power so bharatis believe they don't need as many men on pak border as before. but they soon will see a surprise.

BTW. if it were up to pandit biradiraan Pakistan and india will be fighting China together.

if imam I-moron khan was not such a delusional individual something different was slated to happen this May.

Time for Pakistan to beef up the Indian border.
These troops are not exactly from western front of India, so not really an opportunity.

Further the CAPFs are taking up the roles of security in valley, freeing up more Army troops for front lines.

In terms of number of men in Army , the Indian Army is largest standing Army in the world. And now they are bolstered by an even bigger CAPF force. So numbers won't be a problem.

Even if you do , it will not be a blow to india at all . India will still have 24 divisions to deal with pakistan on western border including all 3 armoures divisions and all 8 RAPIDs.
Mobilisation of troops against india will do more bad to pakistan than good. Pakistan with it's entire eastern army can mobilise 21 divisions.

So, It is best to maintain the current status Quo on border and respect the ceasefire agreement. It is in mutual interest of india and pakistan to co-exist peacefully as good neighbours to each other .

sellouts concluded ceasefire!
Why do you see it in such a negative way ? Is the lives of your soldiers not precious to you ? What was daily ceasefire violation achieving for both sides ? Absolutely Nothing , no politcal or military gains at all ! Have sympathy for the mothers of poor soldiers.

I estimate by late 2030s most RR sectors and divisions will be converted into regular mountain/infantry divisions. Uniform force division of RR earlier tasked for CI ops in Udhampur bahinal region has been moved to Ladakh for conventional role. CAPFs have improved their capabilities to a good extent and can now start relieving RR units from CICT roles

I know if someday pakistan was in need of a ceasefire.....Indians will never do it!

Indian army will collapse if a joint China -Pakistan operation was to occur. India of past is not like India today, your core soldiers the Sikhs and Muslims are no longer loyal to the RSS cause. India army can hardly match Pakistan let alone China and the Indian forces as always will run or be decimated.

This can only be described as an incredibly obtuse observation. Pakistan should be encouraging India to lighten the pressure on its boundaries, not flouncing about and trying to draw attention to the nuisance that it can be.

Even with 6 dedicated divisions to counter PLA along the LAC, many Indian defence analysts still find Indian preparedness wanting.
That is for reasons other than headcount. Unlike some armchair generals, not everybody sees soldiers as cannon fodder.

Your point is essentially valid, but please don't bring the bloody CAPF into these equations.

.....which is why those earlier pieces of bombast were considered obtuse.

Is the lives of your soldiers not precious to you ?
Don't you see? Like many other members of defence fora, they are willing to fight to the last soldier, so long as they sit sheltered behind a keyboard in a cosy room somewhere.

Good things, but the Army should never, ever have been arm-twisted into counter-insurgency, and so-called experts in counter-insurgency - unlettered people who thought brutality was a strategy - should never have been given the opportunities they have unfortunately been given. Reverting the RR to regular assignments is highly overdue.

Only your point about the CAPF having improved their capabilities is not one that sits well with me. You cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. If the babus and netas want to improve the quality of the CAPF, they will get rid of the brutal two-legged beasts they have now, and re-build, selecting personnel for quality, not quantity.

There is a Panchatantra story about a hungry fox that spotted a bull, and reasoned, much as you reason, that those two pieces of flesh that were to be seen dangling below would surely drop off at any moment, and decided to follow the bull around, until it starved to death.
