India: Chennai bakery owner arrested for communal advertisement stating “No Muslim Staff”

Now read again- You can arrest a Jain who insists food be prepared by a particular person keeping in mind his religious sensibilities"- Did anyone arrest a Jain/consumer- Or did the arrest the owner of the establishment- as a consumer itys your right to ask for what you want- One is a public statement and the other is a personal request- lets first understand that- so yes Anand Ranganathan is comparing apples to oranges and is wrong in his tweet.

.
The word Halal is so scary- OMG-
@ Mods please dont ban me- just as a joke- Maybe Pakistan should name their next missile as "Halal ICBM"- If anyone feels offended, let me know and I will apologize and edit my post.
all our Mijjils are HALAL...

Issue is not with " Food Prepared by Jains, On Order"

Issue is " NO Muslim Staffs"

I know you are intelligent and smarter then me to understand problem.

There is no direct law, but derived from the freedom to practice religion part of the constitution with non-interference of the government.

What the legal luminaries have differed on is what constitutes a core religious practice, and that is where the ambiguity and disagreements arise.

If you recall recently there was a SC judgment on the right of a Muslim air force person who was discharged because he insisted on keeping a beard. The court had to first determine if keeping a beard was an essential part of faith.

I found this to be interesting, and love Gautam Bhatia's legal prowess. Read more at:

You see that's the problem. Every religion has some aspects which is considered discriminatory for others including Islam. You can't cry discrimination and then actively discriminate on the basis of freedom of religion.
While Halal is not the topic of this thread and a person here is discriminated (passively) on the basis of religion, this will open a pandora box.

Again the freedom to practice one religion shouldn't interfere with the practitioners of other religion passively or actively. Muslims are not to be blamed to be honest. Our founders granted various freedoms which were not even in law while at the same time actively denied the same to the majority group. And that gave rise to Political Hindutva. I keep saying this to my Muslim friends as well. They go to DMK meetings, where they bash Hindu gods, they clap and come back and then claim brotherhood as if nothing happened. Other 'liberal' Muslims who have warned against the activities of DMK's and Commies causing polarisation were even shouted down by normal radical types.

Your arguments are not making much sense and conflating different issues as one as the same.

Can you hire a Muslim as a Hindu priest? Can you hire a Hindu as a Muslim Imam? No you cannot. So do not mix different issues of discrimination with religious requirements that are protected by law.

Well saying only a Muslim should cut the animal is and will only eat that way even if a non Muslim kills it in a halal way. Anyway let's leave it at that. It's a pretty debatable topic.

There are Halal and Kosher foods sold in supermarket not owned and operated by Muslim or Jewish owners here in South Florida. The 99% of the staff working there are neither Muslims nor Jewish. Customers just buy the food based on the label and brands they are looking for, no one cares to know the religion of the employees.
