Are you kidding me ? South India has a very high density of population. What i'm driving at is---such products are sources of national pride. Faculty from such establishments gets invited to schools and colleges in the area to deliver presentations or speeches. This inspires people.

Almost every R&D facility is established down south, which includes even nano particle research. Most of the technicians, engineers and a vast majority of scientists will also be sourced from nearby regions. This puts the north at a huge disadvantage.

Also---these projects are a source of pride and inspiration for locals belonging to the states where they are established. Many kids will grow up giving their absolute best to one day become a part of it.

Not true at all. Especially not true considering the vast number of graduates from elite universities/colleges. Facilities like nano particle research centers...etc can be made practically anywhere in India. But no effort in this regard is being made.

Think about it, if all facilities are concentrated down south and for some reason south India gets attacked, the whole of India will be crippled for quite some time.

Guys its more about incidence rate and flux of neutrinos rather than politics or population. These sites are considered after studying possible places also considering geographical and environmental factors.

People often write without valid proof and thinking and you are one of them. If you are talking about the cream then kindly go to IITs and check the statistics. The majority are from the north.

In past also most of the scientific laboratories have gone to southern states. eg.ISRO, HAL and Semiconductor research which actually made Banglore in what it is. As companies like Texas instrument and Siemens initially set up small offices which after reaching a critical mass expanded fast while the small indian companies act as subcontractors. Now some of the small subcontractors have grown into IT giants.

Some of such eco systems need to be developed in north. Calcutta (Kolkata) got one opportunity which they gifted to Gujarat which is fast becoming a new automobile hub.

But due to sluggish bureaucracy and biased government policies no such development is happening in North.

This particular project needs the following:
1. Ideal location for tunnelling. Western Ghats provide the perfect locale.
2.Protection from natural disasters like earthquake and flooding. (UP and Bihar are highly flood prone. The selected location is a relatively safe zone from Earthquakes and has no floods)
3. Away from potential terrorist attacks (lets face it, Punjab, Bihar and UP have porous borders and are easily accessible)

As far as R&D in the north is concerned, where do you think all the Natural Sciences researches take place? Most are based in and around Lucknow notably CSIR and CIMAP!


Also to all those morons fighting over North South etc Thank you for potraying such a brilliant picture of our country on a forum moderated by Pakistanis. I bet you guys are pretty proud of yourselves!
