India has overtaken the US to become the second largest smartphone market in the world. China leads the list of largest smartphone market. These findings are based with respect to number of sales of smartphones.
It was stated by Canalys’s, a market research company that India shipped 40 million smartphones in the third quarter of this year. There is an increase of 23% if compared to third quarter of 2016.
China pushed the US to second position and became the largest smartphone market in 2011. It was indicted by a researcher in Canaly’s, Rysgavg Doshi, that the arrival of 4G internet and more network coverage led to more demand of smartphones in India. This has been main factor for increase of overall market share in India.
India is the second largest country in the world, with a population of around 1.3 billion. It is anticipated that the smartphone users might shoot up to 300 million by the end of 2017.
Canalys Research Analyst Ishan Dutt said, “This growth comes as a relief to the smartphone industry. Doubts about India’s market potential are clearly dispelled by this result. There are close to 100 mobile device brands sold in India, with more vendors arriving every quarter.”
Samsung and Xiaomi have the highest share in terms of sale of smartphones. Xiaomi became popular in India due to low pricing of the smartphones with premium quality. Xiaomi sold 9.2 million mobile phones as compared to Samsung’s sales of 9.4 million.
Furthermore, Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and Lenovo have combined market share of 75% in India.
