One question, what is that KathaKali thing (man with a lot of makeup especially greenish and a long golden thing on his head)?

I've seen the likes of him plenty of times, some even from Sri lanaka but I dont know what is his significance?

could anyone shed some light on this?

:)

When people hear that India contains a tropical paradise home to some of the most eclectic biodiversity on the planet, many react with shock. But why? Think of how big the country is and the fact that it borders the Himalayas, Thar Desert and the Indian Ocean. A country with this geography cannot be homogeneous.

Kerala is the tropical paradise in question and a leader in ecotourism in India. The state swims in variety. The people are the most diverse in India and Kerala’s wet evergreen forest has one of the most complex and unique flora on the planet. The best feature for ecotourists however, may be the level of organization that exists to accommodate those who want to trek and scout. The Western Ghats region in particular, is home to some of the best wildlife and virginal nature parks in India. Exotic trails take ecotourists on a virtual safari of rare birds, insects, plants and reptiles. It becomes apparent at first glance that conservation is a top priority in Kerala, much to the delight of visitors.

Kathakali is a highly stylised classical Indian dance-drama noted for its attractive make-up of characters, their elaborate costumes, detailed gestures and well-defined body movements presented in tune with the anchor playback music and complementary percussion. It originated in the country's present day state of Kerala during the 16th century AD, approximately between 1555 and 1605, and has been updated over the years with improved looks, refined gestures and added themes besides more ornate singing and precise drumming.

Well actually in Kathkalli it is not just a mere dance..... but Dance is a Medium to depict the Story of Brave King(s)....

Kathkalli is not only popular in India or Sri Lanka but also in Singapore, malaysia, Indonesia, Combodia...there costume and Make - Up get change.... but use of EYEs and gestures remains the Same.....

Regarding Bio- Diversity different cultures in India.... at avery 100 Kms difference the Taste of Water and Local dialect get change..

In Himachal Pradesh.... it is visible to the extent that.... on 1 mountain If People are speaking 1 language then on otherMountain... some times in front one which is only divided by a river or stream even... we can found completly Different language....

And this is the reason even in Indian Armed Forces u can find completly different people......

For Indian ....... u can not say tht He looks like"Indian".... until and otherwise He tells u Proudly that " Hindi Hai Hum"... " Watan hai Hindustan Hamara"

Kalaripayattu - The Orient's treasure trove, a gift to the modern world and the mother of all martial arts. Legend traces the 3000-year-old art form to Sage Parasurama- the master of all martial art forms and credited to be the re-claimer of Kerala from the Arabian Sea. Kalaripayattu originated in ancient South India. Kung- fu, popularized by the monks of the Shoaling Temple traces its ancestry to Bodhi Dharma - an Indian Buddhist monk and Kalaripayattu master.

Crafted in ancient South India drawing inspiration from the raw power and sinuous strength of the majestic animal forms - Lion, Tiger, Elephant, Wild Boar, Snake, and Crocodile ........ Kalaripayattu laid down the combat code of the Cholas, the Cheras and the Pandyas. Shrouded in deep mystery and mists of secrecy Kalaripayattu was taught by the masters in total isolation, away from prying eyes.

Following the collapse of the princely states and the advent of free India - Kalaripayattu has lost its significance as a mortal combat code. In a Phoenix-like resurrection, Kalaripayattu is today emerging in a new avatar - an ancient art form - a source of inspiration for self-expression in dance forms - both traditional and contemporary, in theatre, in fitness and in movies too.
