You have to understand that Australia doesn't have an independent foreign policy. It is basically UK-lite, i.e. rubber stamping American policy. Even tiny New Zealand is more independent than Australia.

Since the American narrative is to hyphenate India with China, and to project India as a major superpower, the Australian government is parroting the American view.
