New Delhi: Allaying China's apprehensions, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said that the four-nation alliance, comprising India, the United States, Japan and Australia, was not a security bloc and not against anybody's interest.

Singh said he had conveyed this to Chinese President Hu Jintao when they met in Germany earlier this month on the sidelines of the G-8 summit and he had accepted the contention.

"It is not any security bloc, we are not ganging up against anybody," he told reporters on the sidelines of a book release function here.

India, US, Japan and Australia have come together for cooperation in disaster management.

The four countries held an official level meeting in Manila a month back to discuss ways in which they could cooperate in tackling emergencies, including disasters like tsunami of December 2005.

New Delhi points out that it already has such multilateral arrangements, involving countries like South Africa, Brazil, Germany and Japan on various issues.

The four countries had closely cooperated during the tsunami tragedy and based on that experience, are looking for institutionalising that.

Earlier, the US also sought to allay any fears on the four-nation arrangement, saying that the four-nation alliance was not against any country.

lo...so finally they have realised who is boxing in whom?

String of pearls is not as effective as most people think. China herself has to do all the job, since most of these countries are not capable as well as they dont want any rift with powers of the region. While Japan, Australia, US and India are very capable nations can hold their own ground against the chinese, combined these forces are way beyond China. Here comes the Pakistan and Russia card. Pakistan is yo-yoing, as US is Pakistan's biggest benefactor, Russia wants her own dominance, doesnt want to play a chinese second fiddle, She rather have the world which was 30 years ago as well as the border problem with CHina. World is definitly at interesting times.

The most interesting character is India, she is a 3rd world developing country. With her new found economic and military capability. The success of her populace abroad and her educational capacity. Interestingly her democratic creditinals and her neutral stance during the cold war, has found her very attractive to major powers.
By pure military speak, by 2025 one could see India as very major power in the world. With a 5 carrier, 35 Sub Fleet along with other major ships. Navy will play the most important part of Power projection.
