India all set to train Afghan Army

Any chances of Jf-17 sale for Afghan Air force ?

The best option for Afghanistan will be to negotiate for 30-40 odd used F-16 Block 40 from US at a very cheap rate, or Mig-29s for that matter. Mig-25s won't suit Afghan army'r doctrine, and Su-27 is a maintenance heavy aircraft, not an ideal aircraft to start your airforce with, maybe in the future.....

The main problem is the cadre we have right now can only operate Russian toys but If we go for US aircraft that will surely take a lot of years to build up a strong Air force otherwise we would be witness of ejections each day. Still there is time for the authority to think what aircraft they want, last year they asked US to purchase SU-27 and that was rejected right away!

The money should be used to train Afghans in trades like, how they can extract trillion $ worth minerals and oil from their country and be prosper. Too much war in a country which has so much in hidden treasure.
I wish there be books and pens in Afghans youth hand then weapons to fight each other.

a strong military is also imp for overall growth & security of the Afghanistan. over the decades afg has been used as a football, anyone comes & kicks it.

So now India will kick the Afghan football towards the Pakistani goal post?

u.s gave iraq few f-16.They may you give few f-16's to you with training but in future they are going to take care of your air protection for atleast decade.

That's the reason they are insisting on purchase of jet fighters.

it is the pakistan who always wanted to use afg for their own interests. india wants a strong, prosperous & extremist free afg.

Looking at the 'success' the ANA has had, I think India will do a better job training the Afghan Forces than the US & NATO Forces combined.

I seriously don't understand what's the issue anyone has here??

Yes, i agree that India imparting military training to ANA in spite of Pakistan being there is a big diplomatic defeat of Pakistan.

Any other way, a nation helping a new nation (recognized by everyone) is a very good thing. I don't find any great thing in it for Indians to pat their back.. or for pakistanis to find conspiracy theories!!!

and also, now that Afghanistan has its own military, why should India send its army there? and why should we provide any kind of weapons to them??? Uncle Sam is there for that, doesn't that work out better for everyone???? we can train ANA,and Mr Karzai can sign deals with others (may be even pakistan) for getting aircraft, tanks, weapons etc etc

.
We need to send trainers into Afghanistan. Taliban has little to no presence in the northern and western Afghanistan. There will be no security risk for our people there.

Its high time that we help build ANA - which will keep the pressure on and hold the areas in eastern and southern Afghanistan with the help of US Special Forces and air support.

We need tanks not to use them against Pakistan or I may say we even can't but to protect some sensitive areas, Russia has already shown green light to Karzai for supply of tanks and some old fighter jets.
If you use tanks and air power, you end up bombing civilians in the collateral. Basically end up doing what NATO and Pakistan are doing all along and that will piss off the Pusthans even more.
The Afghan army needs to be better trained and for the most part, the Afghan infantry is better equiped than the Indian infantry.

The older Su-27 has no ability to drop PGM. What you want is either the new Su-30's and that will also allow your jets to be maintained in India while you can also be trained in India like the Malaysians.

Well you have to look at this from the ANA prespective. On one hand they have Pakistan, which seems to have little experience in COIN ops and has ended up using artillery, air power against tribals,
OTOH is India, who trains US Special Forces, and has an abundance of COIN experience and if you look at Kashmir the Indian army does not employ heavy artillery or tanks for COIN ops or even air power.
Its the Indian strategy that the ANA is interested in. Treat the people with respect and do your job even if you get KIA. At the end of the day, the people will be greatfull that you didn't end up killing a dozen school children from dropping bombs etc...

Haha lol... I would have loved to see the faces of the American officials when your establishment had asked them to purchase Russian Su 27 for your Airforce....Man its almost like you are seating on their head pissing in their ears...

i think the best aircraft for them will be Grippen....Reason simple Low life cycle cost as compare to other aircrafts....

Up to date Afghans are very happy from ANA they are treated by villagers very well because there are very few incidents that they have mistakenly hurt civilians. We need tanks and air power for a long term strategy.

Good assessment, but looking into our budget for at least next 10 years we are not able to purchase Su-30s but I personally love this bird very much.

Yeah, they slapped us back by offering us only light attack/trainer aircraft.

Pakistani Army is best in the region due to the mastery of intelligence gathering. It is really Afghanistan's misfortune that they have not requested assistance from Pakistan.
