I used the trains to get around from Delhi to Ludhiana and back a bunch of times last year during my trip. Those trains were pretty awesome.

the glaring rich and poor divide in India will eventually cause mass unrest buddy. Its not a good sign.

More than them it's you who need help ..Come to India on medical visa I will help you .

They all travel free , I am certain he didn't buy ticket as 70% gen compartments guy don't buy. Even if he did it's 70 Rs @Laozi @Imran Khan

No Many people have to go to their native or other place in emergency. They just take a ticket , seat in reserved coaches and pay penalty. This is a standard practice.

Not really.

This is the 'General' category, where ticket prices are like Rs 50 to Rs 80 (US$ .83 to US$ 1.17) for such a long ride. Since people of this category always oppose a hike in rail fare, they will get what they ask for.

This is what we are making for those who understand that increasing rail fare is important for ensuring safety and quality with realistic assumptions of inflation rate.

The blue collared crowd does not travel by AC class as it is something they cannot afford. It is really sad because wages are exploitatively low for casual labour here.

One or two general coaches aka Auschwitz, around a dozen Sleepers which are reserved (72 seats/berths per coach), a few 3rd class AC, 2nd class AC, 1st class AC coaches.

This is the general structure of a long route train.
