Incredible Images of the Four Tunnels on KKH near Attabad Lake

Isn't the cost too high for the work?

It looks high but the Area and the road (Karakoram Hghway) was totally destroyed because of land sliding and Lake and the area is mountainous it's cheaper to build road in the plain rather then in Mountains look at the amount of concrete that has been used to prevent land sliding and there are Small and large bridges so amount is obviously high

KKH Re-Alignment: 94% work on the project completed so far, remaining to be completed by Sep. 25 this year

The project included realignment of the road, construction of 5 tunnels with total length of 7.12 km, 78 culverts and 2 bridges. The total contract amount was 275.06 million US dollar. The achieved progress on this project is 4% ahead of the scheduled progress.

Hunza, June 27: The China Road & Bridge Corporation (CRBC) has completed 94 per cent of the work on the re-alignment project of the strategic Karakoram Highway (KKH), which will soon restore the trade link between Pakistan and China. Work on the remaining part of the project is in full swing and it will be completed by 25th September 2015.

Isn't the cost too high for the work?

Yes, the real cost was 100 million dollars. The rest was divided between NS and SS, about 80 million a piece. You have a problem with that? Its not your cash money put into the project

On a serious note, just an interchange section that lets you go from one highway to another, usually comprises of a few small exits from one highway to another in the shape of a small ring, for about 2-4 KM combined, costs around $ 1 billion. The tunnels cost a LOT more due to the mountain cutting, etc.

This project was actually done much cheaper. $ 285 million is honestly as cheap as it gets!! This is truly a new Pakistan in making. Never has anyone else did these critical things for the country in its prior 70 years of history. You guys should enjoy seeing the country coming into 2015. Not staying stuck in the 80's.

90% of Pakistanis don't even pay taxes....or pay little. You shouldn't be using "my tax payer money" as an example. I've seen a lot of people use that on here. If everyone paid their taxes, Pakistan wouldn't have any debt, second, if everyone paid taxes, the government wouldn't need soft loans from anyone, including China. If everyone paid their taxes, JUST for the past 2-3 decades (I really want to go back to 70 years though), but even for the past 20-30 years, Pakistan would right this second have about 80-100 F-16 block 52 (a total of 250 upgraded F-16's) and over a dozen new submarines with another 100-140 twin engine jets and no worries on finances. Its not paying taxes or tax theft to pay little, that has kept Pakistan in a ditch and on foreign Oxygen (aid), resulting in difficulties in defense as well as other infrastructure projects that the government is building with aid.

Third: these projects aren't being built by any tax money, these are being built directly from the Chinese assistance. Where Pakistan is financially, is a direct result of people not paying taxes. In turn, people have become multimillionaires and billionaires and Pakistan was going bankrupt a few years ago.
