Yes but I think China is working on the soft power by developing its media. It has a long way to go.

I think China right now is like a cornered tiger, it is prepared to start snarling and biting back. It's not going to sit around and wait for weaker countries like India, Australia, Japan to take a bite while the US directs it. Any hostility displayed by these countries will be returned five fold by China. I think the US severely underestimates China and the Trump administration has significantly underestimated China's resolve and capabilities. Right now China will work to maintain some stability with its relationship with the US as it is still the weaker power, but once China achieves technological independence (which will happen in 5 years) and economic and tech superiority (which MAY happen in 10-15 years), China will be absolutely vicious against the US if it continues its pattern of hostility.

The other day I was reading a news reporting that an episode of Jay Chou's travel show got banned in China. Reason? Apparently they celebrated Halloween in Tokyo in that episode, and supernatural themes are tightly regulated in China. Regulators are concerned of superstition.
