China’s ethnic Tibetans come in from around the country to the town of Yushu, high in the mountains of Qinghai for a Tibetan festival and the biggest horse racing event of the year in a proud public display of their cultural heritage.
The area is home to the Tibetan minority, some of whom chafe at the Chinese rule. The festival, a regular event since the 1990s, was suspended for many years following the 2010 Yushu earthquake.
In a series of photographs, we look at Tibet’s indigenous people wearing traditional costumes and fine jewellery seen at a fashion show at a local government sponsored festival in Yushu, in the northwestern Chinese province of Qinghai.
