In A First, Father-Son Duo Together Flew IAF's Latest Mi-17 V5 At Vajra Air Fest In Shillong
The stories of families who dedicate their lives to the service of the nation aren’t rare. The proudest moment for an officer is to see his children join the armed forces.

On Oct 1, 2016, a father and son duo added a beautiful milestone to their story.
The father Air Vice Marshal Manvendra Singh and his son Flight Lieutenant Siddharth Singh flew the Mi-17 V5 helicopter which is the latest acquisition in the Indian Air force for the first time at the Vajra Air Fest In Shillong.
Mi-17 V5 helicopter is the latest acquisition in the IAF and is one of a major addition to the Medium lift helicopter fleet. The aircraft is a state of the art platform equipped with advanced avionics and has proved to be an asset to the IAF in various operations and exercises.

Serving the IAF for last 35 years now and having flown in exigent sectors like the Northeast, Uttrakhand, Siachen, Western deserts and the Democratic Republic of Congo, AVM Manvendra Singh has immense experience in the helicopter operations in the IAF, he’s also been credited for his 6700 hrs of flying. At present AVM M Singh is serving as a Senior Officer in Charge Administration HQ EAC.
For Siddharth, his father has always been an inspiration and following his bequest Flt. Lt. Siddharth Singh got commissioned in IAF in the year 2011 in the same stream, helicopter. He has flown Mi-17 V5 and has represented his unit in various Air Force Level exercises. Presently, Siddharth is a unit pilot posted in one of the Mi-17 V5 helicopter unit under HQ EAC

Flying Mi-17 V5 helicopter together was an absolutely momentous and beautiful event for the family.
On being asked how he feels, Flt Lt. Siddharth, a handsome young man who loves to play golf says-
“It’s like a dream come true to fly with my father. He's been a source of inspiration to me to take up military aviation career. I feel extremely proud and privileged to have flown with my father today.”

Eyes filled with pride AVM Manvendra Singh added-
“One of the most cherished memories. It will always be very close to my heart. A chance for me to hand over the baton to my son and give my blessings for long and accomplished flying career.”

To witness the exceptional moment, father of AVM and wives of the two officers were also present. The joy can be seen on the smiling faces.
Smriti Singh, wife of Flt. Lt. Siddharth added, “It is such a proud moment for the family, words just can’t explain it”.
