In a first since World War II, Japan's army chief is visiting Myanmar.

Chief of Staff of Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Gen. Shigeru Iwasaki arrived in the capital of Naypyitaw on Monday to meet his counterpart and to build closer military ties.

He will meet commander-in-chief of defense services Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing on Tuesday to discuss bilateral military ties and mutual cooperation in security and disaster relief.

Iwasaki will also meet President Thein Sein, who has also rekindled military ties with the U.S., before visiting Yangon on Wednesday.

Japan had no military relations with Myanmar under the country's previous military regime.

Myanmar, also called Burma, was under Japanese occupation from 1942 to 1945.

Japan military has been really active recently this can't be good news especially because of the china-Vietnam issue rising.

China aggression caused Japan actively ties the relationships with other China neighbors without any difficulty : India, Myanmar, Vietnam, Phillipines, Russia.

Chinese friends, please acknowledge the fact that "your neighbors tend to stay away from you and find a solution for their own security", no matter what you thinking, that's a fact.

Don't argue, that's our feeling, not yours.

good move, Japan. Japan is not alone to counter aggression of China.

Myanmar is in transition mode, via which they'll open themselves to the world and will create diplomatic and defense relationship with other countries.nothing but a good sign for Myanmar and welcome their baby steps towards "Democracy".

in power politics perspective,Myanmar is a masterstroke and a great but under rated political win by US and west, who took Myanmar from lap of "You know who" and they are now slowly opening their doors to the world.

its a good sign for India too.we were gifting them arms secretly.but now,we can cooperate with them and increase our leverage openly.

Best wishes for good cooperation between you two !!!
