Imran urges Centre to raise drone
issue in UNSC
October 04, 2013
AMIR JALIL BOBRA
ISLAMABAD - Chairman Pakistan
Tahrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan said
that the federal government should
take up the issue of drone attacks in
the United Nation Security Council
(UNSC0 as per its promised in the
All Parties Conference (APC).
Talking to the media after PTI core
committee meeting, Imran said that
the federal government should hold
dialogue with the Taliban otherwise
the situation would further
aggravate in future. "The PTI
believes in dialogue to give peace a
chance. This is the only way to
identify those groups that wish
dialogue for peace and isolate those
elements believing in violence and
terror," he added. He said that many
of these groups were funded by
enemies of Pakistan. He said in
order to have viable peace talks PTI
remains convinced that there must
be a structuralised approach. We are
convinced that some forces are
determined to sabotage the dialogue
and peace process and these should
be thwarted.
He said the federal government has
been given a clear mandate in the
APC and we demand that they
should move on this. "One important
step that the federal government
must take is its commitment to take
the drone issue to the UN Security
Council without any further delay,
otherwise, it will become evident
that the federal government is non-
serious about the national
consensus reflected in the APC," he
added.
He said in case both parties agreed
on ceasefire then drone attacks
would derail this process. "Therefore
stopping drones is critical to
furthering any dialogue and peace
process," he added. He said that
military operation is always a last
option when all means are failed in
this regard. "Such operations must
be clearly defined in terms of scope
and goals," he added. On other
issues, the PTI Core Committee
condemned the government's anti-
people economic policies, including
the unjustified price hikes, free fall
of the rupee, unprecedented note
printing - 800 billion in under 3
months.
It said the poor people of Pakistan
are being made to pay the price for
the elite's tax evasion and
corruption. The Core Committee
criticised the government and
opposition for not taking the PTI
into confidence in the process of
appointing Chairman National
Accountability Bureau (NAB)
