Hunting as a sport is forbidden in Islam and the way he killed that bird was really brutal.

Firstly how did you presume he was NOT going to eat it.!

If he wasn't to eat it, he would leave bird there. He took boat there & picked up the game & other person was washing it with water. Of course to prepare meat to eat.

Secondly,(since you brought in Islam in discussion) how is that brutal? When fathers of Islam hunted like that. Also talking of "brutal", have you ever seen the slaughtering of delicious chicken, mutton, beaf that you enjoy?

It was narrated that 'Adiyy bin Hatim said: "I asked the Messenger of Allah about hunting with the Mirad(a hunting tool) and the said: 'If the sharp edge hits (and it bleeds), then eat, but if the handle of it strikes it, do not eat it, as it died with a blow."'
Sunan an-Nasa'i 4307, In-book reference : Book 42, Hadith 45, English translation : Vol. 5, Book 42, Hadith 4312 & 4313.

Narrated Rafi` bin Khadij: While we were with the Prophet. on a journey, one of the camels ran away. A man shot it with an arrow and stopped it. The Prophet said, "Of these camels some are as wild as wild beasts, so if one of them runs away and you cannot catch it, then do like this (shoot it with an arrow)." I said, "O Allah's Apostle! Sometimes when we are in battles or on a journey we want to slaughter (animals) but we have no knives." He said, "Listen! If you slaughter the animal with anything that causes its blood to flow out, and if Allah's Name is mentioned on slaughtering it, eat of it, provided that the slaughtering instrument is not a tooth or a nail, as the tooth is a bone and the nail is the knife of Ethiopians."
Sahih al-Bukhari 5544, In-book reference : Book 72, Hadith 70, Online English reference : Vol. 7, Book 67, Hadith 452.

Narrated Arfah ibn al-Harith al-Kandi: I was present with the Messenger of Allah at the Farewell Pilgrimage. When the sacrificial camels were brought to him, he said: Call AbulHasan (Ali) to me. Ali was then called for and he (the Prophet) said to him: Catch hold of the lower end of the lance, and the Messenger of Allah himself caught hold of the upper end. He then pierced the camels with it. When he finished slaughtering, he rode on his mule and mounted Ali behind him.
Sunan Abi Dawud 1766, In-book reference :Book 11, Hadith 46, English translation : Book 10, Hadith 1762.

It was narrated that ‘Adi bin Hatim said:“I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, we are people who shoot (arrows).’ He said: ‘If you shoot and pierce (the game), then eat what you pierced.’”
Sunan Ibn majah:English reference : Vol. 1, Book 28, Hadith 3212,Arabic reference : Book 28, Hadith 3333.
Narrated by `Adi bin Hatim that he asked the Prophet "If a hunter throws an arrow at the game but it vanishes at night and after tracing it for two or three days he finds it dead but still bearing his arrow, and you don't see any marks of predators (can he eat of it)?" The Prophet replied, "He can eat if he wishes."
Sahih al-Bukhari 5485, In-book reference : Book 72, Hadith 11, English reference : Vol. 7, Book 67, Hadith 393
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1468, In-book reference : Book 18, Hadith 6, English translation : Vol. 3, Book 16, Hadith 1468
Sunan Ibn Majah: English reference : Vol. 1, Book 28, Hadith 3213, Arabic reference : Book 28, Hadith 3334

If he was going to eat it, then it won't be Halal. He used a gun to kill it. No point draining the blood out when no words of allah were said. And the number of shots he fired at it does not seem to suggest it was an instant kill. The animal would have probably felt pain.... You hunt to eat ? Hope you know the complete philosophy of Arabs. You hunt to eat to get energetic for sex.
:o:o_O

Just wanted to save precious  post above.

He could have said God`s name in heart, what do you know.!
Prophet of ALLAH pierced a camel with a lance. People killed animal with arrows & Mirad.!
No one knows the complete Arab philosophy on sex like you do. You`re the best

Just a couple of questions which you might want to consider. Has he got a license for this ? And what about his sons. Isn't that a Violation of Law ? They used the weapon while being underage...
