Prime Minister Imran Khan believes Pakistan and Malaysia are facing similar situations right now, in terms of debt and corruption.

The heads of the Pakistani and Malaysian government discussed during Prime Minister Khan’s visit to the country common issues such as foreign direct investment, privatisation, tourism and food.

During a press briefing in Putrajaya, Malaysia Wednesday morning, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad also said that he had been invited to visit Pakistan on March 23, 2019 as chief guest at the country’s Pakistan Day celebrations.

He said Malaysia is keen to make Pakistan a dialogue partner in ASEAN groups. He said the two heads of state also discussed mutual defence cooperation during their meetings.

PM Khan said one of the main reasons for him wanting to come to Malaysia was out of admiration for PM Mahathir. You are a statesman who transformed his country and we have followed your country’s progress since when you came into office, he said.

“We want to learn from your experience, how you transformed your economy and developed it,” he said, adding that the two countries’ governments are in similar situations.

PM Mahathir served as Malaysia’s premier from 1981 to 2003 and recently came into power once again, beating PM Najib Razak who is being investigated for massive corruption during his tenure.

“We both attained the people’s mandate on an anti-corruption platform,” said PM Khan, adding that they are also both facing similar situations in terms of unprecedented debt. “We have a lot to share.”

We wanted to talk about dealing with the crisis and how to come out of it, he said, adding that he is pleased with the discourse so far.

PM Khan also said that one of the major issues he wanted to discuss with the Malaysian premier was tourism, or more importantly, how to tap into tourism potential. Malaysia has developed tourism resorts and we want them in Pakistan too, since we have the tourism spots but no resorts, he explained.

He ended his speech by saying he hoped to further these contacts and strengthen the relationship between the countries and looked forward to PM Mahathir gracing the Pakistan Day celebrations on March 23.

Congrats to Imran Khan for having his fanboy moment of meeting Dr. M as PM of Pakistan, nice state visit for a good photo-op with nothing substantial.

Took his ch*tiya finance team of Asad Umar and Razzak Dawood who looked unprepared like him. Should've sent a delegation to get some sort of deal which have been lingering for longtime like MPCEPA signed back in Musharraf time which allowed investment, trade as well as ordinary Pakistanis to get Visa on airport in 2007. Malaysia has only restored that for official and diplomatic passport holders.

Trip great for Dr. Mahathir as an important country leader wishes to 'learn from him'. Mahathir made very unpopular decisions lately like closed down megaproject like bullet train service between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

Many Pakistanis don't know how their forefathers helped different Muslim nations in their quest for independence as well as rights.
Those other countries still remember and honour them whereas we've forgotten them. He was mentioned in the joint statement.
This was the same Malaysia that depended upon a Pakistani judge Justice Abdul Hamid for their drafting of constitution and helped them safeguard their islamic and malay identity.
Justice Abdul Hamid part of Reid Commission [who were assigned and developed Malaysian constitution in 1957]
made Malaysia officially an Islamic federation through ' an establishment clause' in Article 3. It was important as it gave rights to Malays [who were less than 48% of the population with sizable Chinese and Tamil indian minorities]. Muslim count was 60% as other Muslim communities also resided there.

Nothing substantial? How would you define substantial? They "looked" unprepared? Based on what?

You can continue to reminisce about your glory days (that never really existed) and stay where you are, or you can be humble and learn from others to improve yourself.

Its not about glory days, I doubt we had any in the past. Its about stature.

Past generations were proud and helped them from whom our leader has gone to 'learn from'.

He took foreign secretary but there was no prior work done by any of his team to look into making some important MoUs which help both countries. And this was a trip planned a month back. Research a bit when head of states go on state visits the team already has prepared and negotiated major agreements to be signed. When Musharraf went to Malaysia he secured major FDI, JVs as well as VoA [Visa on Arrival] facility. Even the partial abolition for official passports was done by Malaysian Govt. to not make this farig state visit for his emptysuit fanboy.

I was not expecting any breakthroughs which were being crapped by our media. Like aid facility rofl. I was hoping they would be doing state visit so lke any other leadersome major agreements signed or even implementation of MPECA will be advanced and benefit Pakistan greatly.

He had great opportunity to meet Malaysian companies interested in investment. That can be arranged by the Ambassador, yet no major meeting were planned. Only stupid visit to MACC [NAB like organization of Malaysia].

We are not improving we have gone down further. Waste of a state visit.

You are making too many assumptions. In the first 20 seconds of the video below, IK says that he met with investors. He mentions it again later in the speech.

Try to be positive. Its good for you and the country.
