June 22: People fed up of chaotic conditions prevailing in the country because of the insensitivity of authorities concerned have now started pinning hopes on a face which though they are familiar with because of cricket fad, but otherwise a new entrant in political arena.

Abdul Khaliq, who hails from Batgram and works in Kotri by digging gas supply lines, was quick enough to respond to a voice mail message by making it to Hyderabad to attend the public meeting of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) party on Friday. The venue was the SRTC ground where Imran Khan had the honour of showing his best bowling talent. He hopes Imran Khan will be able to extricate the country out of the economic crisis it is gripped in.

Munir Khan, another labourer from Kohistan in Hazara division vowed to vote for PTI since he had lots of hopes in the party.

Achar Rind Baloch, 80, from Dadu after testing all parties now wants to give the PTI a try. His three sons have attained education up to intermediate but are unable to get a job even though every leader kept feeding him on false hopes. A bespectacled man walking with the help of a stick expects Imran Khan to provide relief to people but was worried over the depth of corruption which he thinks would be next to impossible for the PTI leader to root out.

Ashiq Abro of Shikarpur proudly tells that he and his friends journeying on two jeeps joined the party some six months. While Safdar Khan has come from Sukkur where he owns a workshop but was embroiled in a legal battle with one Nasim Shah, front man of a minister, over a piece of land.

“Nasim Shah considers the land as his jagir and hopefully Imran Khan will do away with all such jagirs and people like us will heave a sigh of relief”, said Safdar. Participants of the public meeting came from different cities and the use of technology
witnessed was never seen before in any of the PTI’s previous meetings. Sound effects and visuals could be viewed on big screens put up at different corners and one felt as if the cries and screaming emancipating were recorded. Secretary General of PTI Sindh Dr Arif Alvi said that previously meeting participants used to be in smaller number.

A huge stage was arranged and the surroundings echoed with popular party and Sindhi songs while youths carrying party flags sang and danced.
