PESHAWAR: Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has hinted at an investment of about $2 billion in the energy sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Addressing a meeting of elected members of his party on Saturday, he said that foreign investors were willing to invest in various sectors.

Flanked by PTI’s senior vice-chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, he said his party planned to launch an austerity drive to reduce the government expenditure in KP and said all efforts should be made to implement the party manifesto and make the province a role model for other federating units.

He said the provincial government would pursue a policy based on merit and no individual would be allowed to influence the system. He urged the party MNAs and MPAs to keep an eye on their constituencies and solve the problems being faced by the people. “We want all the departments, including police, to serve the people,” he added.

It was impossible to adopt a merit-based policy without doing away with political influence, he said. The elected people should work hard to resolve the issues affecting the people.

Mr Khan said elections were rigged in many Karachi and Punjab constituencies but finally change emerged in KP, adding that the party was determined to rise to the expectation of the people of the province.

He was happy over the big turnout in May 11 election and said it was a positive sign.

The PTI chief said that intra-party election had set a good precedent in the country and the other parties were under pressure of their workers to follow the suit.

About allotment of tickets in by-election and the concern of party workers, he said that party’s decision was final and asked the workers to abide by the decision. No worker is allowed to go against party’s policy, he said.

On the occasion, KP chief minister Pervez Khattak informed the meeting that working groups had been formed in all departments to bring about change. The government, he said, would implement PTI’s agenda upon the recommendations of respective working groups in different departments.

A local government programme prepared by the working group would soon be sent to the KP Assembly before implementation. He said that the MPAs would not get direct funding for projects.

Yes but details from Imran Khan will be highly appreciated. Imran Khan should actually visit China along with K-P Chief Minister and express his desire for Chinese investment. I am sure if he does talk about ending corruption in the province and intention to work hard etc... I am very hopeful that the Chinese will understand him.

Baaqi aage peechay se investment in K-P is the most difficult thing right now for foreign investors.

Now we are talking @AstanoshKhan @Pak-one

It is a very good start by Mr.Khan..if he succeed to change KPK to some extant, then it will effect greatly to voters in Karachi..as their confidence on PTI will increase more..

Due to prevailing terrorism in the province, foreign investors are worried to put their money on stake... When they always have an option to invest in other countries considered safe

The only advantage PTI has is the new party slogan (Change) --- and they can gain the confidence of countries like China if properly addresses... But still foreign investors are too afraid to risk their business. Imagine, somebody thinks opening a factory... and the factory is blown up by the terrorists?

The investment in K-P is linked to terrorism... If terrorism matter is solved... K-P has the most potential for foreign investors especially in energy sector.

That is why I have always persisted that PTI should work on security system and infrastructure...it should by the first priority of KPK govt. as these problems are inter-related to each other..the better security the greater chances of investment..

That is what they are doing. Their idea is to change the systen first and than call out the investors. There is a huge potential in KPK especially northen areas for oil and gas but as zaki said security is the major concern for all.
The foreign investment is no.good when they have difficulties in getting land, registeration and certifications because of corruption and all that.
He wants to change the system and than call in the investors....NS.and IK both are working along different lines.
This makes me wonder what are we doing with.Balochistan and Sindh

true. the difference of approach is still clear, Khan wants to change the system functionality, while in punjab the infra development and hi profile projects are for political slogans, mainly wont change the miserable lives of the lower class.

Imran should also ask Pakistanis living abroad to do investment in KPK, He should assure investors that Govt will not do negligence and corruption.

Ghareeb ka naam kahan se le liya? PML(N) ko allergy hai insey. Thora to khyaal karo :P

Still, the fact remains that PTI is busy making the government services more efficient. Where filing an FIR is actually possible and hassle-free, where government procedures take a few days instead of months and where provincial lawmakers are concerned about people's welfare instead of their pockets.

If things go according to plan, KPK is set to become the role-model.

Yes, the real demand for change will rise after KPK implementing local bodies with real powers, while pmln is planning to bring back Zia's local bodies(powerless)

how?

Without transparency?

Need a solid step like local bodies elections.

Inshallah. We are looking forward to it.

But I'm guessing the problem with security is still going to undermine a lot of work. Tourism is a very important sector that should be looked into.
And by focusing on hi-quality education (esp. universities), a lot of people from outside KPK will also plan on studying there, turning Pehsawar into a true metropolitan over time.

Investments need to be sought in establishing a high-tech sector in KPK. This is what generates maximum revenues compared to manufacturing or food-production.
