. . . . . . . .
think so explain you question
It was both the combination of the lack of space under the wing and the question of the wing structure. Perhaps also the question of the price: I don't know how far was the technology of wingtip-stations developed at the time Jaguar was desidnge.

BTW, Jaguar was not the first plane to be able to carry weapons over its wings: Lightnings F.Mk.53s, sold to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in late '60s could carry both ferry tanks (of course, these couldn't be jettisoned), Matra SNEG 68mm rocket launchers and JL.100 combined rocket launchers/fuel tanks over their wings.

That was because the Lightening's wing encapsulated the undercarriage wheels leaving little space for pylons!

Lack of space.. the jaguar needed to carry countermeasure mods as well..
So the brits decided to add the hardpoints on the overwing fences..
As far as my knowledge goes.. they are the only european operator of the type to use overwing hardpoints.

This requirement arose quite recently, just after the GW-I. Jaguar already had two underwing pylons before the Brits decided to add two more over the wings.
Question, after leaving the pylons, missiles usually drop a few feet before their motors kick in, so the question of aircraft engines ingesting fumes is very negligible. How does this gas ingestion fare with missiles launched from over wing pylons? Is the risk increased? Also, only AAMs are installed on those pylons and not any other type of munitions/loads.
