How will that address the rent seekers paradise that is the Pakistani economy? The rent seekers will just import Indian products and stamp them 'Made in Pakistan'. Then make even more profit then they are doing right now. And will you guys in India buy our shoddy products but at exhorbitant prices? Me thinks no.

you have to try sell stuff to the large indian market. pakistani exporters have a competitive edge

Trade with Pakistan is closed currently and trust me made in Pakistan label wont sell in India , buying raw material from Pak would immensely help India at it will be the cheapest

What if I'm telling the truth and I'm really Pakistani? Do you want to see proof? Here are some examples of local on the ground knowledge that only a resident Pakistani could have:

(the above refers to mobile phone connections)

I live in Karachi. Did you know that we don't have government funded door to door garbage collection services in this city of 14 million? You have to pay illiterate afghan child labourers to take your trash away. This then is what people are getting in return for their taxes! No water, no trash collection, no public transport, unreliable electricity and almost no law enforcement!

Cut the crap

If
it looks like a Indian, swims like a Indian, and quacks like a Indian, then it probably is a Indian.

One reason of imported item is poor quality of domestically produced items ,only multinational companies like nestle, unilever ,procter and gamble who produce items domestically are maintaining quality but our domestic brands mostly not focus on quality due to greed and short term benefit. This culture is also one reason our domestic produced finished items and Pakistani standards are rejected in foreign countries and even by our own public.

I went to Adidas yesterday. I saw active wear shirts and pants either made in “cambodia or thailand”

I found it rather sad because when I was in Saudi, I used to find “made in pakistan” active wear in their outlets.

I want to know why we are importing active wear of a brand that we export it to other countries?

Thats a great news indeed.

Pakistan should be conscious of its economy and should consume less for a few years until we have enough avenues to make more money. When investment is non existent, exports have shrunk, its very insensitive and selfish of Pakistanis to consume so much.

When I visit Pakistan, what strikes me most is how callous and selfish we are as a society. In big shopping mall super markets, the freezers are stacked with imported cheese, chocolates and dairy products commanding prices in US dollars. Just outside, we have impoverished and haggard beggars sitting outside extending their hand to ask for a coin or two with children almost having no clothes on their body. When I lived there, I did not feel it. When I visit now, I feel we are very selfish people.

Probably the same reason the Chinese buy iphones from Apple at a premium when they make them in their own country - capitalism. These goods have snob value so there's a market for them. The manufacturers in Pakistan don't have the right to sell them under the adidas trademark so they can't open these outlets. The brand has to open them and sell at the usual exorbitant markup it charges consumers everywhere.

Adidas in Pakistan probably doesn't do much business because we are a relatively poor country. OTOH China is one of the largest markets for Apple. For some reason the Chinese tolerate it so I don't think we should be complaining.

- Prices are always in rupees in Pakistan

- Yes people are very selfish here. In fact I've seen perfect strangers hold malice towards each other. I have no idea why.

- The beggars you saw are professionals. They aren't really poor.

- There are homeless people in the US too.

Imports will have to be reduced in favor of supporting local products
