Btw,the A 10 was purpose built for it. The engine were placed there due to the muzzle gases that frequently stalled them when placed forward

The smaller 7.62 mm GAU 2B/A used as fire suppressant doesn't make sense.
Its out ranged by .51s and 14.7mms and was used since the first US gunships couldn't cope with the much heavier BMG.
Mainly vehicle mounted to me the GPMG or heavier BMG make more sense logistically and tactically. Also the idea of mowing down waves of enemy is strictly Hollywood.
But the biggest Gatling swindle must be the 5.56 mm XM 124 Gatling.
As you can see its handheld.
Anyone who can explain why you'd need to lay out 3000 rounds of rabbit pellets at 100 m please tell me. General Electric tried to interest the army in it as it used the same round as the M16 when it came out in the 70s but they said,"thanks,but no thanks!"
