Clearly Asians can master alphabets, add two plus two to make four, and play chess. However, throughout history there have been examples of societies that have produced brilliant individuals, yet collectively experienced a lot of grief and dislocation.

That is so true about all the Asians. Collectively we Asian cannot even get along. Just look at the two biggest countries in the region China and India. Yet in both respective ways they are both showing astonishing growth, but both internally have a very difficult of showing the same results.
