IMF warns about Pakistan's deteriorating economy

Dude I explained you the other day too..you are not taking inflation into account, while calculating(the numbers) ...other than that can you show where IMF has predicted 7% growth for year 2014?

They're saying 6% with inflation and 7% without inflation. They're still predicting 7% with inflation by 2016. OTOH, people within Pakistan are predicting 7% growth in 2014. Either way, as far as the overall point is concerned, my point still stands. The differences in prediction are too small to counter the point I am trying to make.

They are predicting 6% in year 2015 and not 2014
2010 / 2015
Pakistan percent change in GDP at constant prices 3.00 / 6.00 Percent change

Indicators for PAKISTAN

besides these predictions will only stand if all(IMF bailout ) goes well
and not if Pakistan plunges into another economic crisis.

Do you think if IMF pulls out and pakistan declares bankruptcy(unable to return its loan) due to balance of payment crisis..forget 6%, it will be able achieve even positive growth for next few years?

Pakistan won't declare bankruptcy and its in the interest of the international donors to not let that happen (from a financial standpoint).

That is what, Pakistan's present leadership is counting on as it
dilly-dallys on economic reforms

That's not really a big deal, like I said.

All such prediction depends on all going well. Same with prediction of India's growth, China's growth, etc. We have to assume that everything will go to plan as that's what IMF is also predicting.

Then clearly you have missed the above warning ..which also happens to be from IMF.

If you do not increase your revenue and cut your spending ..you will have a budget deficit of over $15 Billion..from whom are you going to borrow that amount of money from?

Yes, I understand that. We'll have to see what is done about that. It's not in my power to do anything. Nevertheless, if everything goes to plan, which one would expect to, we'd be back on track pretty soon.

Pay your taxes ...ask all your friends(back home) to do the same otherwise this $15 billion will come from their pockets in form inflation.

How can GOP impose tax on 75% of people of Pakistan living under poverty line (having income less than 1USD per day)?????

No country could survive, where MNA and MPA including PM and President are giving less than 5000 tax and defence expenditure on basis of GDP is highest in the world.

Servival of Pakistan under these conditions is just a miracle.

The Pakistani state continues to be a weak state because at the highest levels of society paying taxes is not a value - and if elites do not pay taxes, all other segments or strata of society strongly resent that they have to pay to basically keep the elites afloat.

The Pakistani state then adds fuel to the fire by not being open and entirely transparent with regard to how much has been collected from whom and where it is spent. Damn shame that after more than 60 years, this issue has not been dealt with effectively.

The elities especially the political and bureaucratic, have been feeding themselves and their foreign accounts with international taxpayer monies - this cannot go on.

Muse , in early 60s Pakistan was developing at much higher pace than Korea, India, China etc.

Korea which is now among developed nation followed our economic development plan prepared by Dr Mahboob ul Haq.

PIA was among the top 10 Air lines of World.

Infact frequent martial laws derailed our economy , Army corrupted the politics and ruined whole economy .

But it was the Army rule in the 60's. The great leader Ayub Khan took us to great heights in the 60's. But unfortunately after he resigned the country went into the wrong hands kinda reminds me of what's happening right now, a good leader like Musharraf who made economic reforms resigned and the country went into the wrong hands.
