IMF man to head State Bank of Pakistan

That is where it starts. If he can get some steps done at the basic level, it will mean much in the future for health, education and the alleviation of poverty. The rest will follow. He needs to stabilize the economy first of all to have some wiggle room in the resources he needs.
We got to also remember two facts -

  • He is PM of a rickety, cobbled together coalition government with very weak mandate which makes decisions or hard decisions very difficult and more open to manipulation from vested interests.
  • within the elected members there is shortgage of talent which is why PMIK has been forced to induct people as 'advisors' and he is further contstrained by a narrow minded, bigoted culture which limits his choices. We saw what happened when he chose Atof Mian the Ahmedi economist.
If he can make a dent in illiteracy, poverty, health then that at least is something and lays the foundation for the future.

Let us see what he can actually achieve with what he has, not what he wishes he had.

I just cannot understand this out cry by many in Pakistan and here. Every time there is a news about some appointment or removal we look for the negative and than use that to beat the bush. How about look at the positive.

If he is or was working for IMF does that really mean he has no loyalty to Pakistan or is there a suggestion that concurrently he is working both for IMF and SBP governor?

Like any corporate position you need someone with knowledge and experience and SBP is such a position where we need someone with international experience and exposure. This person seems to have right credentials for the job so why not?

In corporate world when you leave one organisation and join the other your loyalty to the first organisation cease than and there and there never is any expectation that you will be loyal to your former employer so why is this any different.

Can anybody, who are calling this a set up, point out how his loyalty will be with IMF and not Pakistan? If one is to follow this logic than you will not be able to move forward and bring bright minds to Pakistan.

If Pakistan appoints some NASA scientist as head of SUPARCO or other organisation will be also argue that that person is disloyal to Pakistan? Wasnt Dr Abdul Qadir Khan also working in Europe before he came to Pakistan?

In my opinion he is the right person for the job if one is to look at his credential. He will bring in experience that he has gained while working in western environment and hopefully he will make changes for the better.
