Iftar Dinner at a Gurdwara, with Muslims, Sikhs and Christians eating together

The evening of 22 June was special for those who were at the Sikh Gurdwara in Jebel Ali in Dubai. The Gurdwara organised an Iftar party for the Ramadan observing Muslim guests. Muslim speakers spoke about the importance of Ramadan fasting for Muslims and broke their fast.

All of this started last year when the Islamic Al Manar Centre started inviting guests from different faiths for Iftar. The Gurdwara decided to return the hospitality last year and invited the Muslims for Iftar. Christians and members of three Churches were also part of the invite. The organisers have also suspended the distribution of langar packets during the month of Ramadan.

Surinder Singh Kandhari, Chariman of the Gurdwara committee told the media that the basic message across all religions was the same which is “to forget our egos and submit ourselves to God.”

This is indeed a heartening thing to see and we hope these small steps towards communal harmony continue.

Minorities in India go along well actually. I've seen it a lot. Muslims, Sikhs and Christians go along well together. Its the extremist Hindus, the likes of Modi, who want a one Hindu state and no one else. That's a whole separate story. But inter-faith dialogue is always good and it helps creating acceptance of other humans from other faiths, and creates tolerance.

Its the extremist Hindus, the likes of Modi, who want a one Hindu state and no one else. That's a whole separate story. The people in this dinner were probably scared of inviting you people thinking you'll bring the extremist with you and kill everyone gathered for a peaceful dinner. That's what every minority household in India thinks nowadays. I've met many in the US in that same boat. Everyone wants their minority family from India to leave and go abroad for safety.

Have you seen the situation on ground ?? Or just read BS on Def.pk and respond. I recommend you to buy tickets to India next year and see for your self and then write the truth.
