Devyani Khobragade is one lucky, lucky lady.

To say that about someone who is possibly facing 10 years in prison and was arrested publicly in front of her daughter’s school over visa fraud, is a bit of a stretch, but hear me out.

Khobragade, 39, is an Indian diplomat living in the United States. She is the deputy consul general in New York and currently out on bail.

She is someone Pakistani diplomats should be jealous of.

Not because she allegedly made USD100, 000 per year. Not because she gets to live in New York. But because as soon as she was publicly humiliated by Uncle Sam, the entire Indian bureaucratic community stood by her and showed an impressive amount of defiance to the most powerful country in the world.

Last week, Khobragade was handcuffed and charged with visa fraud. She has also been accused to have underpaid her housemaid. She was stripped and cavity searched and was set in detention with drug addicts.

And if unicorns were real they would have been farting rainbows across the globe .

There are too many REAL problems in the subcontinent to work upon .

Lets not dwell over imaginary problems .
Yep i agree with you...

But whatever the article says is unfortunately true

oh brother! Nobody is going to jail for underpaying their maid. Diplomat or not. That's ridiculous. You really have to do something serious to actually get a prison sentence here in the US. We have hardened criminals who are let go early due to overcrowding. Underpaying your maid or misstating her salary on a visa application isn't even anywhere close to an offense that would get you a sentence by a judge. He has a lot better people to take that spot in prison.

So why do you think she got arrested?

That's not what your law enforcement ppl said. Oh lets' handcuff her, ;et's put hwe with drug addicts...sheeee shmelly peeepleee, eleven yeeerrssh elevennn yeeersss (mocking the chinese guy in southpark)

Just because you are arrested doesn't mean you qualify for prison time.
Judges sentence people who are found guilty of something to things like paying a simple monetary fine, a token slap on the wrist as time served already (for the hours you endured being arrested), probation, or a even just a warning.

How can they be so reckless when dealing with diplomat(even without full immunity).
Don't they understand respect is 2 way street...

To the writer, the truth is Devyani is not Pakistani and she was arrested, strip searched and what not. I believe it is India that got spanked, not Pakistan. Please bring in Pakistan when that happens.

Assuming things until they are true makes you look desperate.

Unlike the defiance shown by India, our stance would be:

“Please let her go. We promise we will not do it again. Here, want a new area for drone strikes? Come, we have plenty.”

There is something terribly wrong with the expat Pakistanis.

Are you aware that American Indian a$$hole named Preet Barhara who started all this, had misread the Form 60 in which it was clearly stated that the minimum wage to be paid was $4500 by the employer to Kobraghade and NOT to the maid? He thought that amount was to be paid to the maid as minimum wage!!! Jeez!

And the Yanks went berserk over this and in their enthusiasm handcuffed her in public and shoved her into jail with murderers and drug addicts without as much as checking out the facts!!

And more importantly, at the time of her arrest she was accredited advisor to the permanent Mission of India TO THE UN since Aug 2013 and her accreditation was valid till 31 Dec 2013. She thus had complete immunity from arrest or detention.

But the arrogance of the Yanks was spectacular! Unfortunately they hit the wrong ball this time and got a taste of their own medicine by India's retaliatory actions.

Next time they should be aware as to who they are trying to meddle around with. India ain't any sub Saharan banana republic. I thought they knew that?

Even there is terribly wrong with indian expats. The Attorney who arrested her is an indian A$$HOLE. And he wanted to prove that he is more american than america itself...

Do you mean Preet Bharara? If yes, then please do not quote my posts again.
