ISLAMABAD: The broadband penetration rate has increased from 3% to 15% and mobile broadband services are now available across 200 cities in the country, said Federal Minister for Science and Technology Rana Tanveer Hussain.

According to a press release of the ministry of science and technology, the minister was addressing the 72nd session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) held in Bangkok which started on May 15 and will conclude on May 19.

The commission meets annually at the ministerial level to discuss and review economic and social issues for strengthening regional cooperation, the press release said.

“Pakistan has been a leading country in information and communication technologies. IT remittances have grown up to 41% as compared to the previous years,” said Hussian. “The IT industry is considered a successful sector, as it contributed Rs126.30 billion to the exchequer in 2014,” he further said.

Hussian informed the participants that the IT investments in Pakistan have also increased to $5.1 billion and the sector has been generating jobs with the emergence of new technologies in ICT.

‘Excellence in science and technology need of the hour’

Later, he informed the participants that Pakistan has prepared a National Research Agenda –2016 to align the national research and development and innovation activities with the global sustainable development goals in national context.

Hussian said the agenda has been formulated in line with the vision 2025 which identifies 14 priority areas vital for national growth and development. He urged all the member states to move towards global and regional partnerships bound by the principles of openness, inclusivity and collaboration.

They need to pay tax
idiotic policies of munshi dar will end up destroying the IT sector, they have already done a number on banks. Imposing senseless taxes are causing them to leave the country, no companies: no tax at all.

and ICT engineers are leaving Pakistan for Canada, Australia and New Zealand thanks to pay scales.
and companies too, because of the senseless taxation by munshi dar.

Even with all these constraints here we are..

With little brainstorming, even a tax greedy politician, can take IT business far in today's world. First you attract people and companies to come invest and work for IT sector in Pakistan. Once they have developed deep roots in there you can have it your way with minimizing losses.

You just have to give these people a reason to stay in Pakistan instead of putting limitations, conditions, and actually showing them way better options to invest in other countries.

But with the politicians we have, its no surprise they enact every policy an enemy would for the country and the people who keep electing them based on virtual projects that never materialize are also not far off in joining their ranks.

Check this out, and tell me, whether IT sector is progressing or going downwards? (these values are for FY 2014-2015, 11 million per month means 121 million for the year)

Plz read again.....
Pakistan’s App Exports Reach $11 Million Per Month During 2015-16

Apps are just one tiny part of whole IT sector. U are referring to status of complete IT sector 2014-15 whose figures for 2015-16 are awaited.

Earlier this year: http://tribune.com.pk/story/1028708/it-companies-relocating-as-pakistan-gets-tax-hungry/

8% Tax is tax hungry? That's a freaking joke compare to other countries. Most of these people moving to Dubai for tax shelter should be taxed at 150% for any transaction or income generated in Pakistan. That will take care of the moving to Dubai to save 8% Tax problem:butcher:

the thing is that most of their clients are foreigners, so charging them on income from Pakistan would bring next to nothing. 8% will increase the cost of their software, causing the customers to look to other more cheaper alternatives(and software is an industry where cheaper and higher quality services are easily available). But the govt does not understand that, software is not a steel or textile mill.

Fair enough, let's go by your example, fixed costs, indirect costs or overhead Rent Prices in Dubai are 140.52% higher than in Karachi, now call me crazy, but that increase alone will offset the benefits, I will get by moving my business to Dubai to save 8%, and I am not even mentioning the other higher costs like workers, salary, energy prices are higher in Dubai compare to Karachi.
